They are. The presumption of their own expertise makes them unguarded and relaxed. Take tradies as a comparison. Anyone new to carpentry or whatever goes out of their way to follow safety protocols. Both Prometheus and Covenant are shit compared to the originals. The Nostromo crew was at least justified. They were one, glorified space truck drivers so they are allowed to not know that kind of shit, and two, pushed, betrayed and discarded by the company and the damn android.

But these new movies are the definition of idiot plot, they approach these unknown creatures, open their suits to take bathroom breaks on unknown planets, separate from their group to take showers even after knowing there are xenos fucking around on the planet, disregard any and all safety protocols when confronted with the dangerous situations for which those protocols are in place.

The engineers are certainly the bigger issue, an advanced civilization is ok but making them responsible for the creation of both humanity and the xenos is definitely not. I believe the whole point of the alien movies was to confront the unknown nature of space. The human race, on the brink of extinction had no choice but to venture forth and confront all those things that lurk in the dark for the sake of survival.

Explaining things like the origin of humanity and the xenos and even tie both together feels incredibly self centered and presumptuous, not to mention explaining and showing the monster completely takes away the fear of the unknown, it just becomes a creature and not even an interesting one if you go with the whole biological weapon thing.

It just feels small.
