This is incorrect. Clint was perfectly capable of giving Cobra ultimatums. He took his gun, he made him apologize to Scotty's sister, when it was situations that incensed Clint's liberal sensibilities he but his foot down. Cobra was a burden that he shoved to the side because he couldn't handle him and then tried to play it off as something he HAD to do. It was all cope.
I don't really want to debate Clint's parenting now though. Clint wasn't a great father but I do believe he did love Josh in the same way that Josh wasn't a great son but he did love Clint. I had some majorly inaccurate preconceptions about the length and quality of life in general, it really is short. I figured if someone eats and lives unhealthy it means they die in their 60s, maybe 70. But definitely not in their 40s. The human body is clearly designed for life in the teens and 20s. Anything after that is just maintenance to stave off decay.
