Why was John Connor a Bart Simpson-esque wisecracker? Wouldn't spending his entire childhood among warlords and other criminals at the edges of society make him a maladjusted weirdo instead of a typical hip 90s kid?

Why is everything popular in the 90's attributed to Gen X? Bart Simpson and John Conner were aimed at older millennials. Gen Xers were too old to do the Bartman.

I'm not disagreeing. He's very good with structure and premises, but he either deliberately dumbs down his characters to pander to the lowest common denominator or he doesnt know how to write characters that arent stock characters.

>>213908552
>what if someone just said this about Picasso?
The eyerolling part isnt that it is Picasso or Van Gogh or whatever, the eyerolling part is that the scene only exists to give the audience something to go "HA HA LOL I KNOW THAT ISNT SO, STOOPID DUMDUMB". Because Rose's interest in art isnt really relevant to the story, we all ready have the scene where Rose looks through Jacks sketch book, we didnt need this scene. It's just there to make Hockley even more of a cartoon villain than he all ready is.

Sort of true, but a more generous interpretation is that he makes blockbusters aimed at a very broad audience. The sort of films he makes don't require characters with great depth - their qualities are based more in their likability and onscreen charm.

It wasn't, though. It was cringe. I never even liked the movie as a kid, but T2 was completely unwatchable as an adult. John is not a likeable character, the portrayl of the terminator as a surrogate father was stupid and not relatable, and the villain completely defied basic physics and the logic of reality.

Also, has anyone thought about this? How the fuck could humans have defeated machines in the future if they had literal shapeshifting liquid metal monsters that couldn't be physically damaged? None of it makes any sense. Cameron just needed to escalate the tension, so he invented a ludicrously overpowered villain.

Average birth year of a milennial was 1988. a 15 year old milennial would be the disney/nickelodeon generation not 90s kids. they werent the trope of the wise cracking blunt smoking skater kid whos parents were absent, that was the latchkey kid generation.

one is childish. there are no scenes that happen in that film a kid wouldn't instantly get. they'd have to be so young they can't appreciate relationships yet but linda hamilton couldn't fit more nicely into a typical fantasy. it's a lot of chasing and running where there's little room to be confused. meanwhile in 2
>sarah is now totally unrecognizable, fairly unattractive and quite scary
>there's a little kid we have to be sensitive enough to understand could one day be the battle-hardened commander shown during the intro
>there's some weird sexual stuff right off the bat with the waitress showing cock-shock in response to arnold
>whereas in the acquiring clothes punk scene in 1 you gotta' be a homosexual scot reading into things to pick up on all that stuff
>we have to understand who stepparents are and everything that entails
>you have to be emotionally intelligent enough to appreciate the position john is in re: sarah
>there's a full PTSD arc with sarah and little kids know nothing about PTSD
>sarah becoming a terminator while the terminator becomes a human is too heady a theme for kids to pick up on
>we get a fully realized legitimate black character who doesn't possess a single stereotype and dies like a hero (another thing kids can't appreciate)
there's so much more emotional stuff going on beyond two young attractive people loving each other in a desperate situation.

Doesn't matter what the average age of all millennials is. We're talking about a fad that was popular from the very end of the 80's, and throughout the 90's. The majority of kids during this time were not Gen X, and this trope wasn't aimed at 15 year olds. 15 year olds weren't what caused Bartmania.
>latchkey kid generation

Yeah Sarah probably was t hanging out with top stock warlords or military guys . She knew some Mexican guys who did merc work and probably some halfwit survivalists and doomsday preppers. No super serious or idealistic individuals, none of them made good role models or father figures( which is why John is so attached to the t-800)
He probably wasn’t getting any legitimate manifestos or ideals driven into him by them. Was probably watching bootleg VHS tapes of action movies and shit

Are you trying to say T2 is deep? Because it isn't. Adding moving parts to a story doesn't make it good. In fact, T1 being more stresmlined works in its favor. The stakes are clear.
>there's some weird sexual stuff right off the bat with the waitress showing cock-shock in response to arnold
>whereas in the acquiring clothes punk scene in 1 you gotta' be a homosexual scot reading into things to pick up on all that stuff
What the fuck are you talking about? Both scenes are clearly about Arnold being nude and it has nothing to do with the sexual orientation of the viewer.

>2 came out in 91. The average milennial was 3 years old,
And the average Gen Xer was around 20. Almost like this isn't a useful statistic. What matters is the proportion of kids during this time, and they were mostly millennials. That's why TMNT is usually considered a millennial property even though the average millennial was apparently 1 year old when it came out.
>When referring to 90's kids it's usually about adolescents, not actual children.
It would depend on what exactly you're talking about, but kids is going to be between 5 and 16ish, and in the 90's, that was mostly millennials.
>And what the fuck does the simpsons have to do with anything
