Lex was good, Clark was good but I think Gunn gave him some shitty dialogue at times. The movie didn't give enough time to the central Lex vs Superman conflict, they spent too much time on the side characters. and they really screwed the pooch on that jor-el message twist. It didn't come across as genuine AT ALL. They needed to completely change how they revealed that if they didn't want it to just seem like footage that Lex manipulated. The dude can make a pocket universe for fuck sake, does Gunn really think that making a high quality forged video is beyond his capabilities?

He comes off as disingenuous in his disposition as if it's a film directed towards those types of people. Gunn himself is a hack so I am not surprised at not only the inflated response for desperate celebration, but only shows the lack of confidence it has compared to actual cinema. It doesn't even hold a candle to MoS, which is actually a movie; whether you like it or not.

Fantastic TV content but a terrible movie. It’s impossible to wholly accept this without looking in the rear view mirror at Snyder. It captured the feeling of some of the best superman comics which I enjoyed; “Whatever happened to truth, justice and the American way”, “All-Star Superman” and generally just a positive, uplifting portrayal. It’s a good film.

It is, unfortunately, a film hampered by James Gunn’s strange camera work, a soundtrack obviously taken from the Christopher Reeve film instead of an original soundtrack, and this film will be let down in future by pathetic follow up stories in the same “universe”.

For a stand alone film, it was a lot of fun. But I generally feel sickened by most superhero films now. But if they can capture that pulp, uplifting feel of films like Dick Tracey, The Phantom, The Rocketeer, Ang Lee’s Hulk and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, I’ll keep showing up to the kinoplex to watch.

It was a little corny at times but it was very enjoyable. Corny and Superman kimd of come with each other. I was skeptical about Corenswet at first but this movie proved he would be able to commit to the role of Superman well. The casting in general was really good. Storywise it's whatever, very comic booky as expected. Compared to F4 I can find myself to rewatch this one since it's engaging at times and the CGI was pretty decent

It’s more about tone than story. The visuals of metropolis and its denizens evoke the images of Frank Quietly’s illustrations, and the conflict centres on what is most important in modern heroic myth; saving lives as opposed to killing something. In All-Star Superman, those issues don’t focus on a dark, bitter superman attempting to kill an evil foe, but save those around him in Golden Age type stories.

That is what I mean. The film, and by extension James Gunn, are reverential of the source material, unlike Kevin Fiege’s MCU and Zack Snyder’s DCEU, which seem embarked by the source. For the former, it’s as minimal as the lack of embrace of superhero costume’s for darkened military-esc garb, and the latter, it’s a lack of understanding of the existence of Batman’s no kill rule and a rejection of it as “le juvenile and le realistic” as if a caped crusader is not.

I could pick this movie apart if I really wanted to. It was a sloppy movie, but every modern cape movie is much more extremely sloppy, so what does it matter? In particular I disliked the super contrived plot surrounding the Krypton message. It was just unnecessary and such a specific thing which the movie immediately sweeps under the rug anyway. If Lex was really the Lex, he would have found a way to turn the people against Superman without that.

I also thought they could have done more to display this Superman's upbringing with the Kents. Of course we all know the story and that is Gunn's logic for not bothering with it, but all it takes is like a 10 minute montage of a kid growing into a young man in some small Kansas town. Like in Conan the Barbarian they don't just skip kid Conan turning into Arnold, they show him suffering at the wheel and becoming a man. It's short but adds so much. It solidifies the connection with the character for the rest of the movie. This just drops you in so you don't have that.

I've literally never seen anyone discuss the actual content of the film. It's always about the box office.

I thought it was fine. Don't think it's a good direction for DC and I didn't like how packed it was with other heroes. The twist at the end was very bizarre (no pun intended) and the action scenes felt half baked. The fight on the football field was full of good ideas poorly implemented. I don't think the resetting of Jor-El as seemingly a genocider is a good take.

Very true, but the reason it worked with marvel because they had solo films and such so the team ups make sense. I get that Gunn's entire thing with GotG was to take low tier superheroes and humanise them with humour so they're elevated enough to work with the A Listers in the team up films. All I got from Superman was Superman was dragged down by all the other heroes and characters, which is very strange for the first film in a new franchise. It's like Gunn has taken his approach to GotG and applied it to the entire DCU, but where's the big A Listers when you've taken an A Lister's film and packed it full of shitters? I just don't get the strategy.

Still, each film could have made an extra 30% or so if the new lead of the DCU didn't come out and say they weren't worth seeing. Aquaman made 1.2b, the sequel made 500m. That's mental and Gunn's comments didn't help.

Gunn has no idea what hes doing and contradicts himself
>he said his superman needs to be weak to make conflict seem good
>his superman is objectively stronger than Snyders
>and outside of one instance superman doesnt even struggle
>says he loves the comics
>has everyone killing people
>Guy launches normal humans five stories in the air which is enough force to kill them and if theh survived the fall will finish the job
>the prime minister or whatver that hawkgirl killed fell from a lower height than those guys they are dead no argument
>green lanterns are forbidden from using the power rings to kill, and the ring will know because it can detect life around it so it should have immediately left guy to find a more suitable host and alerted the Guardians of Oa
>Mr Terrific is supposed to br smart
>doesnt understand superman was leading the kaiju to an unpopulated area to limit collateral damage
>rushes in with his team and fucks everything up leading to the city being devastated and putting lives at risk
>supergirl is just a drunk party girl
Everything about it is terrible

It's not better than the 70's and 80's movies, nor is it better than Superman Returns, but I did like it.
It captures the kindheartedness of Superman well enough, but I prefer him more charismatic. That's how I know him out of the comics I've read, that's how I know him out of the movies and shows that weren't Snydershit, and that's how I know him out of the few games he's in. In terms of charisma, he does not pass the test. He's too much like the other male characters Gunn is used to portraying, like Starlord or Peacemaker. Not bad, but not quite what I like.
The plot itself is good, even if the resolution to the notIsraelis invading the nondescript Arab country is a copout and kind of misses the point of the first act.

Superman 2025 is one of the worst superhero movies of all times. James Gunn, who excels in directing overdone violence, out of place quips, undeserved melodrama and perverted sex obsession brings all his trademark traits to this rendition of Superman. This isn't a Superman movie, it's a Marvel/Guardians of Galaxy movie with Superman in the middle of it. In fact, Gunn seems to enjoy writing Justice Gang far more than he does writing Superman. The former which ran off two jokes that were repeated ad nauseam throughout the movie.

What makes Superman a compelling character is gone in Gunn's sloppy adaption. He's not particularly strong, he's not particularly wise, he's a poor leader, he's extremely narcissist and gets easily emotional. And this is supposed to be a seasoned Superman. It's almost like Gunn was projecting his own shitty flawed character on to Superman. The only missing touch would be if Lois was a minor.

The action scenes are just a complete mess of CG blob. Superman is basically a rag doll that gets thrown all over the place and nothing in this movie has weight or meaning to it, particularly in its action. There's a scene where Lois and Mr Terrific break into enemy HQ and the whole ordeal is of course settled with a very catchy music montage of all the enemies being dismantled with utter ease. The next scene is of Clark trying to keep a CGI baby from drowning in lava with his deus ex dog arriving in timely manner to save him again. This is straight out of a Marvel movie and has no place in a Superman movie.

This rendition of Lex is also his most shallow depiction. There is no nuance or intelligence to this Lex. He's not particularly shrewd and constantly spills out his plans for everyone to find out. He throws into temper tantrums just like Superman and starts to sob and cry because Superman is better than him. Where is the elegance and intelligence of Luthor? This is basically a spoiled rich kid battling another spoiled strong kid. 1/10, MCU slop.

Superman: Bad acting
Lex: Over acting
Hawkgirl: cringe acting
Super dog: stupid and pointless
Bad Superman: terrible villain idea
CGI: Bollywood tier
Story: ridiculous
>Superman gets locked in a prison with an alien who can create kryptonite and then the suddenly on a dime the alien just changes his mind and decides to help Superman
Man of steel is bad, but I think this one is worse. The only good Superman movies are the first two Reeves ones.

Pedo Gunn underwent therapy prior to this movie and he couldn't stop project himself unto Superman. This is why Superman in this movie comes off as a weak, narcissist, emotional bitch.

Drew Pavlou is usually based and spot-on, especially in his critique of woke right and alt-left, but sometimes he's retarded af, like here, and I say that as his follower. There is literally nothing antisemitic about this movie, especially when Superman and Lois are played by a Jewish actor and an honorary Jewish actress respectively, when Lex is an obvious pastiche of Silicon Valley and Texas technocrats, and le evil country of Boravia is literally a Russo-Serbian surrogate with orthodox Christian domes and a Slavic language.

When I watched Man of Steel in theaters, it was a 150 minutes of four, desaturated Jesus allegory. When the movie finished, a literal grandmother said "that's not how I remember Superman" as she left the theater. That ALWAYS stuck with me.

When I saw James Gunn's Superman in theaters, people were laughing and cheering. Kids were literally clapping out of there seats when Superman did his hero shots. My mom was enamored, and my friends can't stop singing the end theme. It's a memetic masterpiece that captures the TRUE energy of Superman. It really doesn't matter if it's GOOD, it succeeds as an impressionist piece. The crowd LOVES it.

DC isn’t some pity franchise that needs D-tier characters to run the show. People want to see their A-list heroes in full glory with quality actors and directors. The Batman casually dropped 800m during the covid slump. S2025 is a complete downgrade from MoS and it’s no surprise the pedophile ceo can’t get anyone interesting working for him.

I think the casting was solid, like 8/10.. but James Gunn squandered any potential this movie had in order to fluff his own ego. Like holy fuck, there's a wealth of good Superman stories going back decades he could have cherry-picked from, but we got another quirky, run-of-mill James Gunn movie instead. His directing is fine, but the choice of characters was abysmal and the plot was a convoluted mess that gave hardly any time to the main character. Doing a hard reboot of a franchise and not having any sort of origin story was nuts, and resulted in one of the clunkiest exposition dumps I've ever seen in a movie. Once I saw the opening text, I immediately had a bad feeling that I wasn't going to like it. I get not wanting to retread the destruction of Krypton again yada yada, but there are numerous other ways to deliver exposition without resorting to a text dump.
To give credit where it's due, he got a lot right with Superman's character, but for some reason he also decided to make him petulant man-child who acts without thinking, yet he is also a super-genius who built a small army of sentient robots? It doesn't make any sense.
Overall, this movie was just a huge disappointment. It's not bad enough to ruin the goodwill of any sequels, but I have serious concerns for the future of the DCU if James Gunn is still involved in the writing.

I fucking hate jews so much, but I actually liked the new Superman. It’s just too bad the movie sucked and they gave him nothing of interest to do.

James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sucked, and this sucked. He’s 0/2 with the DC films.
