What movie has the best action sequence of all time?

For me, it's The Matrix: Reloaded. From the fight at the chateau all the way to the freeway, and then Neo comes and saves morphius.

Close second would have to be the char chase in Ronan.

trinty running from the agent in the first movie is infinitely superior to everything in the sequels because it immediately established stakes, wordlessly established the danger she was in, and communicated how hard she was shitting herself while keeping it together.

The podrace was better, there's at least one lightsaber duel in every Star Wars film and that's good and all but the podrace was something never seen before in Star Wars. Darth Maul versus Obi Wan and Qui Gon comes in at a close second.

The Raid 2 is essentially one giant action scene that takes place over the course of two and a half hours culminating in the best action showdown of all time. It's the best action film of all time and it's quite literally not even close. One of the very few films I'm glad I saw in theaters before I stopped going to theaters.

Loved that fight too. A lot of the sequel fights have a unique musical quality to them, that one includes, but it's felt most clearly in the Upgraded Agents fight at the start of Reloaded. Each hit matches p recently with the music and even when the music stops after the final Agent dies, it has one last bit with the street light crashing into the ground that's so perfectly timed. It's so fucking good.

I´d say the overall best action movie of all time is Terminator 2 because it has a great balance and pacing but if we are talking self contained sequences i think probably Shoot´em up probably takes the cake when it comes to shooting sequences at the very least.

If however we are talking martial arts then that´s a different story. That award probably goes to a wuxia film like IP man unless we are allowing for animation, then there are just too many candidates.

Terminator 2, hands down. The way action never lets up, just BAM BAM BAM, scene after scene and that music that goes with it. Whether it is the channel chase, or when Arnie goes across trucks to empty mag into T1000 and then immediately flips truck.

I don't think anybody has ever seriously criticized the action in Reloaded and Revolutions. It's just that everything else about them fucking sucks. Like I can say the Chateau to highway sequence is among the greatest set pieces ever made while still acknowledging that the movie itself is a pile of incoherent ass.
