I know this is going to come as a shock, but medieval history was very rarely like it is in movies and video games.
Sure, sometimes villages would get burned, but if look up statistics I can almost guarantee you have a far better shot of being in a mass shooting in today's US than seeing warfare as a medieval peasant.
Although the biggest reason for that is that the peasants and their work was generally what political grievances were over, so killing peasants over political grievances is like suing someone for all their money and then trying to bankrupt them.
