Whats the dumbest premise of a movie you've ever seen?
>everyones remaining life time is written in numbers like a clock on their arm
>le poor people have not much time while the rich have centuries of life remaining
>people go to casinos and 'gamble their life away'
wow so deep. what a load of shit
Anonymous No.213918663 >>213922207
The only thing I remember about this giant piece of shit is a bank heist to steal a bunch of time and my first thought was what if they just had the time installed in some way it couldn't immediately be stolen then they open the vault and it's just a normal time holder with like a trillion years on it, not even locked to the floor or chained up.

It was a bit on the nose but I went in knowing it was gonna be a cheesy flick due to Justin Timberlake being the lead. Had my waifu in it so I gave it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised and they did a good job of world building and the performances by some pretty famous actors was great and unexpected. I don't know why you're shitting on it so hard it was well done for what it was. I would even watch it again for a few scenes. Anon itt said the Bonnie and Clyde thing was when it drops off and I agree, but a cheesy idea done well is better than a good one done shitty imo.
Tldnr: fuck off it wasn't that bad, good even for a fair bit of it.

I watched the film and don’t remember much besides the fact they had no real ending to the movie and it just runs out of steam half way into it
Do they give an explanation to why the β€œtime” thing even happened ? I assume science invented a way so every human in now immortal so they added a time clock to their arm to give people motivation to actually do something instead of being lazy but …I might be completely making that explanation up

>Eh, I thought it was pretty clever.
It's an interesting concept but falls apart if you think about it for a bit.
>How would the economy would work at all? Any murders would erase ridiculous amounts of currency so theoretically everything should be part of an enormous dictatorship with regulation of weaponry and people being so heavily monitored it would be impossible to even stab someone. In the movie the banks have their own military basically and they do monitor you to a degree, but not in a way that makes crime very hard to have happen.
>Sudden deaths of people with thousands upon thousands of years in them due to natural causes would basically be the equivalent of a Fortune 50 company going under.
>Once the replacement level went too low the entire system collapses as a whole. The only way it works is if everyone is breeding to Africa levels in every country all the time.
>Older people have no value compared to younger people and there would be no reason to care about them outside of altruism.
>Altruism and charity as a concept would realistically be dead because you are literally donating an absurd amount of your life in a single second to do the equivalent of donating to a charity or a homeless person. Due to the absurd cost of everything donations would be untenable.
Obviously the parallel is donating an hour of your wages (Imagine $15 minimum wage) to a starving kid but people are able to disassociate because it's money and not their time.
>Nihilism and existential dread would be way more prevalent because everyone knows when they will die from natural causes.
>People would be significantly more selfish because of knowing how much time they have.
>Such a system would never take hold within society without an outright revolt because of how easy it would be for anyone controlling said system to just give themselves infinite years and the poors basically nothing. I believe the movie implied it was man-made.

It's so hard to reconcile as a concept.

Everyone in the setting is already a genetically engineered immortal posthuman; after all this is from the same guy who made Gattaca. Note that Olivia Wilde's character is Justin Timberlake's desperately poor 50 year old wagie mother. She's clearly not getting some secret billionaire adrenochrome cyborg treatments or whatever, she was just programmed from birth to age to adulthood and then stop like everyone else. So the timer system and its derived currency is entirely artificial and arbitrary because it's to stop the world from being overpopulated with immortals.

Also on the time currency being meaningless fiat, remember that after the heist Timberlake is both told that the Time he stole can be replaced by the authorities by simply pressing a button, and whatever he redistributes will quickly be drained back out of the lower class economy by raising prices and lowering wages
