I feel like the "it's totally fake bros" argument is hard to believe when western blockbusters already make the vast majority of their money in China already.
Rebirth made more than half of its money from China.

Also conversely, Disney would never want news that their no. 1 cash cow they spent decades trying and trying to appeal to is now just making their own animated movies that do well.

Kind of, but it is technically optional. The second does recap it, but I think it's a very brief one overall that isn't great and doesn't fully get across the relationships of all the characters, which majority are carried over from the first movie.
