Books are more accessible since they're easier to make and you miss out on a lot of great storytelling if you just rely on films.

Two Towers is 100% pure kino. Fellowship is around 50% kino, Return of the King is where Tolkien clearly was to big to answer to any editor so the kino falls below 35%.

And throughout the Silmarillion and LOTR it was not just dwarves but elves, humans and hobbits too who fell in love with beautiful items.
