Broken Mechanics
Why isn't anyone addressing some of the MORE OBVIOUS problems with this movie?
Nothing in this film really makes any sense in the light of day, and even given the benefit of every doubt each scene lacks any real dramatic impact. Your brain is doing double-duty trying to make logical sense of what you're seeing, starting with the Abrams-Death-Star level lack of concern for time and space.
eg.
>Lex goes to the Fortress of Solitude in Antarctica
>we see him and his henchmen landing and getting off some kind of VTOL plane
>once inside he says he's created 'a distraction' to prevent Superman showing up
>see henchmen releasing tiny kaiju (evidently a flashback to the previous night in Metropolis)
Fine. So we'll go ahead and assume that Lex is smart enough to only land at the Fortress when the Kaiju is big enough to actually distract Superman. Not a problem yet, and it's not expecting too much for the audience to put that timeline together so far for the sake of that cut.
>Superman and Justicefags finish fighting Kaiju, (which didn't seem to take all that long).
>meanwhile, Lex has already got back from Antarctica, had multiple experts analyse and endorse a completely alien translation, and is in-studio mid-interview
What your brain now has to figure out/allow/justify:
>How Lex got back from Antarctica and did all that in that time
>When in the Kaiju timeline did he land in Antarctica? Before or after we see Superman fighting the kaiju?
If before he risks discovery at the Fortress. If after it's literally impossible for him to do all that crap.
Sure you can assume Superman was fighting the kaiju for hours before we see him mid-fight with it, but either way that's unnecessary and annoying work your brain is doing on a totally unnecessary logical WTF? instead of just watching the film.
It stands out because Gunn was never guilty of that kind of Abrams-level incompetence in the 'Guardians' movies or any of his other work that I can recall. Bad time to start doing it now.
