I guess when they were filming Suicide Squad he was still kinda working out the character. It was a very strange take, he acted hella weird in it but it felt fresh, possibly too fresh for people to wrap their minds around. And if didnt help that WB had a separate editing team come in to destroy Ayer's original cut and basically excise Joker from the movie. Leto's in the movie for about 5 minutes.

Some were and still are quick to judgment but we saw so little of his version of the Joker in action that there's no fair consensus to make, imo.

I hope that some day the original cut of suicide squad gets released or leaked.

It had an interesting premise and the characters were alright so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be at least decent.

When i saw it in theatres i was actually super creeped out by him, in a good way. I'm looking at him and he's acting so inhuman, his body language isn't matching his words at all, and I was trying to predict what he was going to do or say next and I couldn't. Like is this dude toying with me just to be funny or am i about to get tortured to death?

I guess in retrospect I am happy they could save something for James Gunn but damn man the shit implied in this little scene and the BvS scene with the Robin suit makes me think showing Joker kill Robin Snyder Cut would've been immensely kino, probably too much so.

Snyder stated that in JL2, which takes place almost entirely in the Knightmare future, they would've eventually all sat down and revealed what happened all those years ago.

When they revealed that Joker was going to cameo in ZSJL, they posted pic related. Joker wearing a crown of thorns, like Jesus. So Joker is "the son" who "died" and was "resurrected." Catch my drift? If the BvS Batman is so brutal and jaded, why doesn't he just instakill Joker on sight?

Also, the scene in Suicide Squad where Joker is lying down amongst those knives may at first look like cringe randomness, but it may actually be an omega symbol. You see, at some point Joker had actually brokered a deal with the Enchantress and was aware of Darkseid's impending arrival, hence the knives laid out in an omega shape.
