>Wow.. did the britishers really do this in India?
First off, isnβt there a similar line about the cost of a bullet in some movie set in Africa, with the line delivered by a Warlord ?
Secondly, the British βtook overβ India, in collaboration with local rulers, probably as a war against the Mughals, who had been waging war to take over India extensively before the British ever arrived.
The British East India Company seems to have collaborated with powers in India, maybe in Gujarat, specifically to remove the Mughals from India, and the population in India increased significantly after the British takeover, with most problems being caused by decisions of local Indian Rulers.
The British did try to invade Nepal, and almost got their asses kicked, till they reached a protection agreement.
