Probably the inordinately large amount of footage helps. Both sides filmed and photographed EVERYTHING, almost religiously. So we have huge amounts of footage for almost every front, battle and campaign. Compare this with WW1 where the selection is a lot more sparse and you tend to see the same couple of clips repeated over and over (although there a few WW2 classics that are a bit overused - the Stuka divebombing over a factory in Poland in Sep 1939 comes to mind).

Because it was incredible crossroads of technology. Nukes were flying, and submarines were chasing boats in the ocean while soldier shot at each other with single action rifles.
Imagine getting into a submarine nearly a century ago while engineers were trying to come up with small fighter planes with wooden frames that wouldn't buckle in higher speeds and tanks having sngle dependent carburetors. Insane shit.

the germans lost close to a million people in the first 6 months of barbarossa. compared to the ~100k losses they took to subjugate all of europe the year prior. the soviets lost close to 6 million, but only one of them could absorb these kind of losses. it was a bad plan and the germans were always gonna lose

Because every single frame of the war was made to be part of a propaganda film reel. So it's specifically made to be as gung ho as possible for whoever is filming. And why you never see reels showing dead soldiers from the perspective of the side that lost them

The aesthetics are 10/10. The weapons, the uniforms, the locations, it just works.
The biggest problem of course is that most of the stories are poisoned by the propaganda of the victors. (Like that episode in Band of Brothers where they liberate a death camp that didn't exist just to remind us of the Holocaust because we can't have a story without it).
