It is unfortunate that Disney owns Star Wars, but there are a few things to consider, from George's perspective.
1. it made him lot of money.
2. it did wonders for his reputation. The whole "Magic is not for Amateurs" thing - might as well be directed at modern Disney. He proved with the sale that no one could do it like he did.
3. Star Wars is destroying Disney. In fact Star Wars has pretty much brought Hollywood in general to its knees. This is of course a net good.

The first movie is a classic, the second was revolutionary for that time, and every movie since then was dog shit.

I don't even understand the lore anymore with how the Prequels and Sequels fucked it all up. I can't imagine someone watching the first two movies and saying to themselves "hmmm, yes, the Prequels are definitely the backdrop to this"
