I liked it. There was so much side content for Matrix and it was all great. Very few other franchises have I felt that way about. They usually come across as cashgrabs, low effort, generic, soulless.

Well, in that example the guy had to lower the LOD setting so the framerate wouldn't tank. Most games have separate lower quality models for things that are far away from the camera and this game had an option to use those.
So you could play with models that looked like the PS2 version but your framerate would go to shit with a computer of the time.

But that was the least of that version's problems, it was packed full of bugs and missing assets.

We're living in a time when video game adaptations are surpassing the films they are adapting, giving satisfying sequels or prequels to beloved franchises, revitalizing interest in past franchises and fads. I'm more excited and looking forward to games of series I used to love as films. Its kind of an exciting time, but its kinda dismal at the same time when you think about it. The video game industry is full of people who failed to get in to the film industry and the film industry is filled with people who don't understand the video game industry.

You gotta imagine the film industry is shook over it in some way. I no long er have to watch your movies, I can play a game of the genre your movie is and have a much more fulfilling, immersive and more entertaining time with it. And it must really scare them that with all the money that they fling around and all that, that a few people, sometimes even just a team of three dudes, can make better kino than they can.

Here's a sample of the cancelled Stage 9 project which would have been a simulator of the Enterprises of old from Star Trek, but it was cancelled by CBS.

Same with this game play demo of Burton's Batman made literally by one dude in Unreal Engine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82yXWJp3Dhc

I'm looking forward to James Bond First Light, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle to go along with Infernal Machine and Fate of Atlantis, The Halloween and Hellraiser games, Robocop: Rogue City Unfinished Business, Terminator 2D: No Fate, amongst numerous, NUMEROUS others. Up to and including several other genres there aren't enough films for, or no films at all, and many other titles that don't have movie adaptations at all that scratch all the itches that I want when I want to be entertained.

Hollywood can't get its shit together and stop huffing its own fucking farts.

> a lot of the concepts work in a weird way
Their original vision for the ending was that at the end, Mario and Luigi get asked if they would allow their story to be adapted into a video game, which frames the game as being a loose adaptation of the movie/real story, when in actuality, the movie is a deconstruction and expansion upon the game, which doesn't really have a story or explain much to begin with. I've always thought this was an interesting angle to take and it would've been less interesting if they just presented the world as it is, like alot of video game movies do. They didn't need to explain why fungus is everywhere. They could've played it safe, but did anyways and came up with some interesting plotlines. Sadly, the ending we got is the worst aspect of the movie and the fact that the movie is sort of a commentary on video game adaptations just ends up being lost in the end.

Aside from graphics and maaaybe some "size" limitations... Games have been the same since 2008 or so. There hasn't been a significant advancement in gameplay tech to be any different... Even "massive maps with hundreds of players" was being done since stuff like ET: Quake Wars, Planetside, and Tribes. Most gameplay-oriented physics is still the same since half life 2.
All military FPS games are just CODMW2 with better graphics. All racing games are either Forza with better graphics, Trackmania (nations) with better graphics, Gran Turismo 4 with better graphics, or Dirt with better graphics. GTAV had the exact same gameplay as GTA4... just with a larger map and better graphics. And i suspect GTA6 will be the same.

VR had the possibility of changing gameplay... but it seems to still be very niche thing.
AI seems to have the possibility of changing gameplay. Maybe. Doesn't seem anyone's tried to use it in any sort of not-meme project yet.

Also putting in the double health cheat goes a long way to balance the difficulty, especially in the later levels. I just replayed the game on my Gamecube a couple months back. I also actually really like the stealth sections because they break up the combat.

You can’t really make GTA clones anymore, games have gotten too big now so smaller studios don’t have the resources to make them.

I liked the tiny map with Explosive weapons only. Not the rocket launcher explosives, but the trip mines and sticky bombs etc. Multiplayer with bots is underrated.

You want me to explain to you in detail why expressing half a thought at best and leaving it up to someone else to elaborate for you to pick apart is the sign of an asshole? The irony.

what kind of bullshit is just saying "GTAV had the exact same gameplay as GTA4"? That's not a coherent or useful statement in any way. It's the same generic trivial slop comments espoused about everything now. "durrr this movie is same as last one, didn't change enough!" Trying to give a thoughtout effortful rebuttal will likely just get the same trite dismissal.

AI should be used for procedural gameplay. Imagine an open world game populated by chatbots with personality. AI will have NPCs live their lives and have relationships with other NPCs and impact the world. Why write and programme dialogue trees, get an AI to come up with it. Every playthriufh would be completely different.
A Minecraft game with loads of AI driven NPCs going around autonomously mining, building, trading etc would be awesome.

Pretty sure it was shot on 35mm so it'd look great if a proper transfer was done

It assigns flags at random for which major characters are human or replicant on each new playthrough including the player character, so no two runs are ever quite the same. Truly incredible game.

My issue with the game was how at random as you progressed the game would power you up between levels and make you stronger and have new moved and abilities. Like one stage you fight normally next stage oh now I can walk on walls and super jump

I didn't care for the movies but the PC and 6th gen console versions of the first 2 harry potter movies are really neat Zelda clones

Even have that nice thing that older games used to have where the PC and Console versions are just.......completely different games

There was a brief period in like the late 90's to early 2000's where some Gen X devs and filmmakers just locked in/clicked together and made some really good cross media "marketing"/content.
You basically can't do that anymore now because the creative heads for all the IP's are retarded executives along with movies/shows/games taking fucking 6 years to make new entries where as back then you could slam out a AAA game in a year or two

In my opinion the best movie games all existed in the Sega Genesis and SNES era and then they stopped. People compliment Peter Jackson's King Kong movie video game a lot though. That's like the last one I heard significant praise of. Oh yeah also that Chronicles of Riddick game.

They recreated all the locations from the movie precisely, and created many more that perfectly fit in. Got the real actors to do voice roles. The 'Making Of' video is really interesting. I'd say the game is way darker than the movies too with including lolita child replicants and the personal pet like the book.
