It's because when he made El Topo no one in Mexico had ever made a film like that. John Lennon and other drug heads saw it and became friends with him. He Did the Holy Mountain and and El Topo inspired a bunch of Americans like Dennis Hopper with Easy Rider. He was set to do Dune and it was so bat shit insane that they ran out of money before shooting even was on the table. Everything in those Dune documents was later ripped off from by other directors because it was a huge book being passed around Hollywood. Like the red robot vision from Terminator? That was from his Dune book. Alien and Blade Runner designs came from that book. In the end a Dune movie was made with Lynch instead but it had nothing to do with Jodorowsky's version. Worst of all Lynch Dune also got fucked by producers.

So Jodorwosky basically kinda semi retired around the 80s, only being supported by Europeans like Dario Argento. He said fuck Hollywood and moved to France and become fluid in French. Also the company ABKCO owns the rights to his older movies and Alan Klein (Jew) has been fucking over everyone that worked for him and stealing their money. Look up how many legal battles Klein has had for basically stealing money.

Around the mid 2000s Klein and Jodorowsky reconciled and a box set was released that was very successful. Most people today know about Jodorwky because of that boxed set. Later he did The Dance of Reality which was supposed to be his come back film but nobody watched it because he's still basically a literally who.

Its a really satisfying read and it keeps one upping itself as it goes on and you think its establishing a formula, it will surprise you.
