Disney had one chance with the Buzz Lightyear movie and completely blew it. Disney doesn't want to make boy movies and doesn't want boys. They just want the princess production line and nothing else. If there is anyone at Disney who knows and cares to make a cool boy movie they have no power and will quit long before they're told to shut up.

Nintendo had this figured out years ago with Link. Even Wind Waker, which is considered kiddie by fans, has enough cool hero stuff in it to count as a boy thing. Disney could make a movie from the original LoZ concept art and rake in trillions on a new IP but won't because it would require violence and boys behaving badly like in Pinocchio. Also, unlike girls boys generally want to kill/slay anything that doesn't look like a normal human and want to fuck the girl, Lucas had this figured out with Han Solo shooting greedo and kissing Leia. Whereas, in modern Star Wars half the people are Disneyfied aliens that can't be hurt or shot because Disney doesn't allow that sort of violence in their films anymore and no kissing or getting the girl. And no normal white people relationships either.

It's just not going to happen. Nothing to do with woke/dei or any politics either. Disney just doesn't want to make boy product.

Worth noting that the article isn't about Disney losing its male audience (it isn't). The 13-28 year old male demographic accounts for 10% of their ticket sales, which is tied with Sony Pictures and Paramount, doing better than Universal, and slightly worse than Warner Bros. The point of the article isn't that Disney is shedding male ticketbuyers but that it's surprising that they're looking for original IPs to expand the audience considering they literally have Marvel and Star Wars. It's not that Disney is in some boy crisis, it's that it's weird that they don't seem to want to expand the properties they spent so much money acquiring for exactly this purpose.

The only thing I can think of that has been successful for them and aimed more at young boys was that Percy Jackson show. Deadpool & Wolverine was a hit but that was more for adults. Their other hits have been stuff like Inside Out 2 and Lilo & Stitch which are more for girls.
