no individual person is a super genius. it's always the accumulated work of many, many people that one guy combines into something amazing. this guy for example is just like any genius irl. he invents something and gets rich. he's smart, but there's only so much expertise you can cram into one brain. he can't be good at everything, and that thing he invented wasn't solely his doing. maybe you're right op, maybe he is stupid for thinking too highly of his intelligence. that's how a lot of geniuses are in real life though.

Intelligence is about anticipating and deduction. A successful fictional character like him likely anticipated market trends, invested in specific technologies at the right time, made decisions that optimized the organization of the ones he acquired and also recognized which person to place in key positions to ensure growth and progress.
Absolutely there would be luck involved and for one person that makes it there are thousands that had all the right know-how and opportunities but for one reason or another got sidelined or eliminated.

I don't think having all proverbial character points being put into Intelligence is good.
All you can do is think, and where can that get you?
