Constantly highlighting the parallels between the bureaucracies of different institutions, including the criminal element of the city, was genius writing.

Among other things, the writing. This dude has a feeling for the language and rhythm of the streets like nobody else.

Pic rel is a great read and the spiritual genesis of Wire.

Because it was literally a different time.

Now, you’re not allowed to portray police in a bad light because of the thin blue line insane Trump boomers.

You’re also not allowed to portray niggers in a bad light because muh racism and trauma.

And of course, our sacred institutions of political office and education are beyond criticism, because any serious examination of a school or governors office will result in reports that will radicalize the goyim and make them unruly.

Anyone watch his show about the rise of the sex industry? it was pretty solid for a recent show, though the maggie gyllenhaal story arc kinda sucked because of her acting

How is the corner. Thinking about watching it as a sort of wire prequel

He spent like 20 years as a crime reporter before becoming an author then screenwriter for the TV adaption of his works. He's really the embodiment of writing about what he knows the best.

Its plotlines are hit or miss but it’s a decent enough show. It never got too much attention here.

I liked the conspiracy plotline about letting the neighbourhood rot so commercial developpers could buy properties for cheap. though it's not a revolutionary idea I assume this was how it happened and what is currently happening in most big cities

Yeah my thought exactly, the weakest story arcs were Maggie Gyllenhaal quest for an arthouse porn film and the gay guy with his upscale bar opened right as the AIDS crisis hit. the mob aspect was kino all along. The pimps of the first season were great too yeah, I remember the end of the pilot where CC cuts his whore's armpits with a razor. So specific you just knew David Simon did his research when it came to the pimp characters
