Scream 5 & 6 are easily the worst of the franchise, especially 6. The third act in six is the worst part of the series. Fucking Mindy sucks. I'm glad they fired that Mexican bitch and the other spic bitch jumped ship. Not that they ruined those movies but I was already sick of both of them halfway through 6. Kill Gale in 7 and the rest of the zoomer cast and have a good killer with a good motive because the last two films killers and motives were absolute shit.

Just finished Saw 3. That was it? That's the original end of the franchise? Ended on such a bad note I don't think I'll watch the next ones. It was never the plan honestly, I just wanted to check them out with my parents for horror night movies. 1 was a masterpiece, it's up there with Seven and much better than Silence of the Lambs in fact. We remembered them as being tortureporn but 1 stands firmly as a thriller movie.
2 already started going harder on the painful gore but it was tolerable.

But 3.
On 3's shoulders rested the responsibility to do something more hopeful and end the "original trilogy" in a palatable way. I can safely say it's not worth watching beyond the 1st one if this is the ending point.
It starts bleak, with the inescapable traps just putting victims through mindless suffering. BUT WAIT, the protagonist is a wronged dad full of revenge, slowly progressing through games while seeing people who wronged him and caused the death of his son' trapped in the games and he has the choice to forgive them. All while Jigsaw is on his deathbed trying to watch this to the end, just to see if humans are capable of true compassion before dying, this is like Squid Games all over again.
This is a goddamn good setting. He stumbles up and down with the lesson to learn, but at least it seems like the final Jigsaw games will end with him letting some people go alive before dying and the dad learning a lesson. BUT THEN IT DOESN'T, you wasted your time watching this franchise thinking it was anything other than torture porn, once 3 ends you just witnessed dozens of senseless murders, all surviving characters from previous movies were killed off with zero glory like filler characters, Jigsaw gets killed and the protagonists die because of his dead switch.

Watch People Die, Learn Nothing and No Plot Ever Progresses : The Trilogy.
Just pretend the 1st one is the only one.

I don't think I'm being a bitch honestly. Something has to have moved from point A to point B to say it was worth watching them. But you missed on nothing by just watching Saw 1 and nothing else as far as I can tell. 2 is very entertaining but again, going back to "point A to point B" I can't say these ever progressed.
With 1 you already know who Jigsaw is in a masterful reveal, that he's trying to get people to become better and appreciate life more, and that he himself is dying.
The next movies simply have his health get worse and die, as he kills more people, no one learns to be better by these games, and no named character survives either. He didn't reach his goals, and the protagonists didn't either. It all changed so simply if Jeff at the end of 3 had forgiven him and went away with his wife, as Jigsaw has flashbacks to the woman he apparently loved, or have him be happy that he created 1 better person through all of these games going on for years (because not even his assistant learned anything).
You could at least say that's what the games were all about.

>>213957572
I don't even remember the story all that well but the directing and characters alone make it a good film, I distinctly remember how real and entertaining they were. Also the filming sets, constantly raining. Just these overview elements can make a film good if nothing else.
I can say the same for SAW I guess, without getting into the plot which I'm hating right now, they're the exact aesthetic I loved from 2000s horror movies like The Ring. All green/blue and grainy. There's nothing supernatural about SAW yet it manages to be so creepy.

I just hated Seven with a passion and hated the way it worshipped it's villain even though he's boringly empty and seems undeserved of "winning".
Saw to me on the other hand remembers it's supposed to be entertaining and is such a carnival of cruelty as to endearing you to Kramer.
FYI about the rest of the Saw series - it takes a serious hit in quality after 3 so at that point you're in it for the gore and schlock, but it delivers on those to the point where the absurdity of it all makes the villains into heroes.
And that is more of a reply to what you've said: Saw was ludicriously financially successful, all very low budget too. They had a plan to churn one out every year and the golden goose kept laying, which meant the narrative had to keep becoming a labyrinth instead of resolving to any kind of meaningful end.

Seven is one of Fincher's weaker films. The direction and sets are good but that is true of most of his work. The villain basically just gives up and cheats at the end, which would be funny if the characters in the film actually pointed that out.

Undeserving villains and cheap shock endings, oh I can emphasize with that.

But yeah part of the problem is Saw 3 still killed every named character by the end. 4 could happen regardless (I assume) if the end of 3 was Jeff and his Wife managing to get an ambulance, while the Jigsaws are officially dead. The writers could have anyone else take up the mask in 4 and start new games, it was needlessly mean spirited. The next 7 films could probably still happen if this movie ended with someone finally walking out of those games instead of getting trapped.

St. Arnold Pumpkinator is a really good one out of Texas. My local store last year only carried Elysian Pumpkin Pack, which are just okay, so I might have to talk to them and make a request for more pumpkin beers. They used to have a great selection.
The most I've spent on a pumpkin beer was around $12 for one bottle of this hipster craft beer. It was very good, but there's no way that's a fair price. It can't be that expensive to make this shit. By next year, I'll be making my own hipster beer at a fraction of the price.

Finished Demon City Shinjuku.
It's more laid-back and slower paced compared to Wicked City, and the ending is kind of anti-climactic as far as action, but it's got a nice atmosphere to it and I thought it was pretty enjoyable. That older 80s Japanimation is very aesthetic.

I'm not very familiar with anime in general, but as I watch these anime horrors, I always find myself comparing them to Japanese games I am familiar with and grew up with, like Resident Evil or Onimusha. Some of it's so uncanny, they had to have taken inspiration from these movies.

Life back then was more focused and straight-laced. Halloween was a real break from daily life, so there was a mischievousness and celebration about it then that doesn't exist as strongly in the current, hyper-commercialized era.

John Wayne has a great quote about Halloween, reflecting on 1920s Halloween and how the national culture had changed in the 70s

>PLAYBOY: Why do you think many young peopleβ€”black and whiteβ€”support the Panthers?
>WAYNE: They're standing up for what they feel is right, not for what they think is rightβ€”'cause they don't think. As a kid, the Panther ideas probably would have intrigued me. When I was a little kid, you could be adventurous like that without hurting anybody. There were periods when you could blow the valve and let off some steam. Like Halloween. You'd talk about it for three months ahead of time, and then that night you'd go out and stick the hose in the lawn, turn it on and start singing Old Black Joe or something. And when people came out from their Halloween party, you'd lift the hose and wet them down. And while you were running, the other kids would be stealing the ice cream from the party. All kinds of rebellious actions like that were accepted for that one day. Then you could talk about it for three months afterward. That took care of about six months of the year. There was another day called the Fourth of July, when you could go out and shoot firecrackers and burn down two or three buildings. So there were two days a year. Now those days are gone. You can't have firecrackers, you can't have explosives, you can't have thisβ€”don't do this, don't do that. Don't...don't...don't. A continual don't until the kids are ready to do almost anything rebellious. The government makes the rules, so now the running of our government is the thing they're rebelling against. For a lot of those kids, that's just being adventurous. They're not deliberately setting out to undermine the foundations of our great country.

I liked it more than Wicked City but maybe it's because I watched it more recently. Wicked City had a weird magical ending, whereas I thought Demon City was more simple and "your father secretly imbued his soul in the sword!" was a pretty cool twist, maybe I'm retarded but they had a massive plot bridge to gap and they did it so hats off to them.

Does the phone call at the end imply he killed her, he called after every murder, or is it just to re-enforce that he's still there? I don't think he would've had time between the cut from the attic to exterior, but watching it again I am now not sure.

It's left ambiguous but the only possibilities are what you said so basically it's double-hopeless and she's either dead already or just about to be. My favourite slasher ending ever. The useless cop standing outside is the cherry on top of the scene.

I feel like if he killed her then the cops have to know they fucked up and there's another act of the movie we didn't get to see. Or she didn't die and spent the rest of her life believing it was Peter
>cherry on top
For me it's the cop standing outside and the dead body of the girl with the bag over her head clearly visible in the window above him. She was there the entire movie and nobody ever looked up or looked in the attic.

Sounds cool and right up my alley, honestly. Sometimes ratings don't matter because a horror film can turn out to be an endearing kind of bad instead of actual garbage, or you can appreciate a certain aspect of it on a personal level, like music, cinematography etc. Anyone that's watched enough horror knows what I'm talking about.

In real life, cults are probably the one scary thing, I'm afraid of herd behavior in general, like innocent people getting lynched, people getting stompted to death or trapped in a burning building because they are stuck, I think it's because I'm a contrarian by nature and a loner, I feel like I could realistically be a targed (I was also bullied in school).
