Poverty is subjective. A poor farmer in the Philippines might still be happy because he has everything he needs, real poverty is when you have to genuinly have to struggle to survive on a day in and out basis. I think this is what the rich have a hard idea grasping because they've never struggled, it's akin to a gambler having 1 or 2 good hands and then losing everything slowly because he thought "luck was on his side." Poor people do stupid things when they get an op because of time bias (I HAVE TO MAKE IT NOW SO I CAN ENJOY THE REST OF MY LIFE) and because their brains are so deprived of hope and victory that when they get the first dopamine hit they become more and more egregious. At the end of the day, a person who has to struggle to survive will inevitably sell their morals and pride to get a leg up, and that usually ends up in them crashing out for being treated like shit by the rich or doing something stupid which brings it all down because of their time bias. A kid who grew up never having to think about if their needs are going to be met versus another who is waiting until they are the legal age to work at the local burger king to buy ps4 games will have very different mentality about money and opportunity, also not to mention poor kids tend to get buck broken by the system much earlier in terms of making it honestly which is why I think a lot of drug addicts are poors, choose not to play the game just get high 24/7 and escape it

If Bong wanted to present an argument against wealth inequality South Korea is a great case study for how three arbitrary corporations (LG, Samsung, Hyundai) dictate who gets to live a good quality of life and who doesn't, and getting those jobs comes down largely to luck and circumstance. We know Bong is a left wing liberal so it's surprising Parasite comes across as sympathetic to the rich and maligning the poor. Perhaps he was just trying to be nuanced and fair to everyone but ended up not saying anything at all. Still a great movie.

Yeah this is one I didn't get the deeper meaning of. It was an enjoyable move but at the point where he found the two elderly people living in the basement is where it jumped the shark for me and stopped making any sense . After that whatever the message of the movie was supposed to be was completely lost on me. Anyone care to explain?
