While he's right that directors tend to lose their spark as they age, it's retarded to set ten films as the arbitrary number. Also he's ignoring directors like Akira Kurosawa who had fantastic late periods after a slump or an extended break from making films.

Tarantino is partially correct but his autism gets the better of him, there's no 11th film curse on great directors, the truth is most directors have a lousy film somewhere in their repertoire before they even reach their 10th film, then they go on to make more good and great films and more lousy films it's part of life.

Look at Scorsese, in between Raging Bull, Last Temptation, Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed, Wolf of Wall Street, etc... you have shit like Age of Innocence, Kundun, Hugo, The Irishman, doesn't mean he doesn't have some great movies left in him.

He's kind of right. Not sure about a specific number but as time goes on your level of quality can diminish. It does happen. Even if you dumped out nothing but hits and find a pattern that works too much can oversaturate the market and people getting fatigued by the same stuff. At some point you just gotta go out on top.

Cause he knows his shit is starting to suck and he’s too rich and tired to be as passionate as he once was. Once Upon A Time in Hollywood was visually amazing but total pretentious boring shit next to reservoir dogs and pulp fiction. He was probably going to end with that movie because it’s his love letter to Hollywood or whatever the fuck. It was terrible which lit a fire under his ass to go out with a bang and hopefully go back to his roots.

No musician is going "Only get to make 3 good albums in a lifetime", and no painter only plans on ever making 20 canvases for their entire career and not one more. Your wits get duller with age, you get more insulated in your own bubble and more disconnected with the current zeitgeist. Ridley Scott is a good example, you just age out of being able to make cool shit.
