Nonsense. Impassioned scenes are the hallmark of good acting.
>Denzel's rant at the end of Training Day.
>Tom Hanks laying there and lazily firing at the Panzer rolling toward him and the look of abject bewilderment when it exploded.
>Sean Bean's tearful pledge of loyalty to Aragorn when he dies
>Ernest Borgnine explaining to his mom that he's ugly and fat that women will never want him in Marty
>David Hyde Pierce's opening longshot scene in Frasier with the spot of blood on the couch as great physical comedy acting
And so on. Yes, they vanish into the characters and you're invested into the story, but good acting gives weight and poignancy to the stories they're in.
