I didn't like it.
It felt like the movie didn't take itself seriously at all. Not that the movie needed to be serious. It just needed to believe in itself. It felt like almost every scene was like written sarcastically or something. Like that serious scene of Superman talking to Lois while that space jellyfish thing is being fought in the background. That could have been serious but the framing made it seem like a joke was happening in the background deflating everything. Even the camera work made it seem like a comedy. I don't know what's up with all the insane wide-angle lenses he uses in this but it makes every close-up character shot look ridiculous by warping the characters' faces.

It’s alright. I like them adapting parts of Superman’s lore that haven’t been used in movies before, like krypto, or his super robots in the fortress of solitude. There’s a lot of funny moments. Superman himself is good, as are Lois and Jimmy. The other heroes are kinda generic bargain basement GotG. The fights are CGI clusterfucks, which I don’t like personally but at this point it’s a given in superhero movies.
I enjoyed it overall, maybe 6/10

I liked it. Felt like a Superman movie. Superman is a ridiculous character. He’s an alien from another planet with super power that flies around in his underwear. You got to lean into the camp and absurdness. Superman got less popular and more boring the minute they took shit too seriously and made him some religious symbol
>>213968292
the movie constantly undercuts its serious moments with comedy, as if it really wants to be sincere but the writers can't escape being ironic. like when Lex kills a guy and they immediately follow it up with "maybe I'll kill Clark Kent next" which immediately got a laugh in the theater and killed the scene. or again when Superman's having his big moment with the speech but then Krypto flies in and ragdolls Lex, immediately killing the scene. it refuses to be genuine even as it strains in that direction.

This is a good point. I feel like Gunn’s style worked for GotG because it’s ultimately a goofy family bonding type road trip movie and the Guardians themselves are sarcastic and scoundrels. Same with Suicide Squad.
But Superman is supposed to be this beacon of positivity, and he absolutely was in this new film, but it works better when he’s positive in CONTRAST to the doom and violence around him. Having everyone be happy go lucky and goofy downplays the importance of his optimism and good will because it makes it seem pointless. He isn’t a shining light for a dark situation/society, he’s just another clown at the carnival.

It's lame. 5.5 mid capeshit. The guy playing superman is alright but it has more bad elements than good ones. The allied group is insufferable and upstaging. Lois is cute but she doesn't feel like a Lois plus her character is extremely annoying towards superman. She is only tolerable after external problems happen, but not in a regular relationship setting so I didn't exactly root for her. Lex is shit. Another tech bro faggot but this time bald, which is fine, but the pocket universe prison was terrible and stopped the pacing of the movie. The antagonist group sucked. The clone shit SUCKED, as clone shit usually tends to do. Making superman's parents 'facist bad' is a questionable decision. All in all, it's shit.

Maybe if i was an emotionally unstable, insecure man child like the main character it would resonate more. Worst part is it's all wrapped in inferior, ugly filmmaking. I've been trying to think of the last time I watched a similarly ugly film from a major studio but i'm drawing a blank so far. Can't say i'm surprised this only managed to keep 1/3 of the audience of the previous incarnation. And I don't see anything here winning them back either.

It was. But it felt so incredibly out of place with the tone of the rest of the movie and his parents are in it for so little we have like no concept of what his relationship is with them before there's this serious talk. Like their first scene is his mom yelling at her phone like some dumb old lady and its there more to be a joke than to mean anything.

The film is derivative schlock from the mind of James Gunn, one can only fear what he does with Batman next- if you’ve seen one Gunn film you’ve seen them all: Daddy Issues, Crude Humor, Zero ability to write reasonable or threatening tension, gaps in power level logic, personal jabs at audiences and critics because he has the skin of wet tissue paper and just a childish, boring, mess.
I didn’t remember anything from the film except that I didn’t like it and Lex and Superman both came off as whiny unlikeable cunts that are impossible to root for unless you’re a whiny unlikeable cunt yourself, this is supposed to be a superhero movie but none of the heroes felt super- 0/10, im being serious- one of the worst Superman adaptations of all time.

To be honest, I was amazed at how violent this movie actually is. It's always being compared to Snyder's Man of Murder and understandably so, but I dont get why this version is considered to be better. Yeah, Supes is actively (as a blatant fuck-you to Snyder) saving people and pets in this one, but he also murders his retarded clone with no shred of remorse. Dozens of raptor-grunts are klled in "phantom-zone" and shredded with lazor in Metropolis. Metropolis itself is fucking decimated. There are like 10 9/11's that happen. And, yeah, we are supposed to think that everyone was "evacuated", but it's just silly. You can't evac a city of this size in a matter of hours. And the rivergulf, btw, should have also been consumed by the rift and black hole. Combatants from not-Palestine and not-Russia should be leaving dozens of bodies after all attacks. The president of a country gets murdered as a joke.
Yet, we dont dwell on any of that and ascribe a "light-hearted" feel to the movie that is dark at its core. Like an ISIS video with a colourfull filter and punk-rock background song.
All in all, its a good comic-book movie, which is still shit compared to a good regular movie.

Expedition realism from a Superman movie is ridiculous. When nuke hits San Andreas Fault in Superman movie and Superman puts it back together, it’s ridiculous to think nobody dies but it’s a Superman movie. Or the fact there would be nuclear fallout from an atomic bomb hitting California. And UltraMan is not dead. Everyone knows he’s coming out that void at some point as Bizarro

The only reason people cope about this is because they don't want to believe or want to purposely shield the movie by saying that Superman would never, ever kill Ultraman. So they cope that he's fine, that he'll eventually come back as Bizarro, and so on ignoring the fact that if Gunn wanted he'd have named this Bizarro in the first place and that if there is a next movie they'll obviously focus on a new villain.

It's alright, there are some good parts to it, but I do think it flip-flops between the serious moments and comedy (also a lot of the comedy wasn't all that great) to really have a sense of what the movie mood should be. Overall, a decent movie to watch and rewatch.
I do think a "week of Superman" is an interesting plot device that worked pretty well, but it is lost when the movie didn't show that specifically, it genuinely would have been better with the title cards like this video shows

This movie sucks giant dirty monkey balls. Superman is a weak whiney man child the entire movie who constantly needs to be saved and the only enemy he can defeat is a dumber version of himself. The entire Borovia subplot was so politically hamfisted it took me right out of the movie, Lois and Superman basically had a fight about Israel invading Palestine and they thought it belonged in a superhero flick.
Plot wise, this movie felt like the second of a trilogy. There's no world building, no intro, just superman already being superman and getting his ass kicked. We never get to see him in his prime simply saving the day, there is always other people helping or he loses. it tells us he's the strongest at the beginning but we don't see that during the film, we see a weak useless average superhero who everyone can keep up with, make bleed, and beat up. even the robot lady can fly faster than him, and all she got was nanobites from luthor. if he could do that to one person, why didn't he do that to more and have an army of people who can make their head come out of their own ass for no reason?
Superman himself is annoying to watch, almost everything he says is retarded, and i almost turned it off when he saved the squirrel instead of trying to stop the giant monster from killing more people. Women being obsessed with Jimmy was also an annoying subplot that felt too slapstick to fit in the movie. it felt more like a naked gun joke. I don't care how hard of a reporter you are, if there was an interdimensional rift opening in the city you'd want to evacuate too. the civilians treated the threats way too casually, which diminished how serious the danger was. 4/10, Man of Steel was leagues better.

It’s bad. The plot is dumb. Characters act irrational.
And there is too many fucking ugly close-ups of people’s faces. It’s like that one scene in Black Adam multiple times. This is legit one of the ugliest films I have ever seen. Only rivaled by The Flash.

First moderately good Superman film since the '80s. It's nice to see Clark Kent and not moody blue maskless Batman.
Reeve is still the GOAT.

You need some kind of middleground. It should take itself seriously and not be embarrassed by itself, but still be portrayed in a capacity where everyone understands this is still over the top and there should be a measure of at least fun with it. The best to do it is Blade.

Nowhere near enough and not in any capacity. The best moments it had of levity were clear attempts at ripping off Blade's style, and routinely failed because Bale didn't believe in his own role the same way Wesley Snipes believed in his. Mind you, this is partly because Wesley Snipes is a schizophrenic person who sincerely believed he was Blade (and reality has refused to find any good way to refute it), but that doesn't make it any less true.

Dark, gritty, edgy works for certain characters, for Batman it works because he's a more realistic character because he has no superpowers, plus his tragic backstory. The issue with The Batman is it didn't do anything new with that tone, it lacked the vision that the Nolan or Burton films had. Maybe it's also the fact that we already have a ton of Batman films, so there's nowhere new to go with the character, nothing to really explore that hasn't already been said.
For Superman silly/goofy works better because of the nature of his character. The new one was also helped by the fact that it was exploring themes and aspects that had been touched on in comics but not in film yet, the way the Nolan Batman films had.

He's not wrong, especially in the latest film where the message from his Kryptonian parents reveal he was sent to conquer earth which causes social media to turn against him, this mirrors the recent mass noticing and public opinion turning massively against jews.
It's very obvious that jews see Superman as an allegory for themselves and portray him as such. But that also does make him a metaphor about immigration, because jews are the first immigrants, the ultimate immigrant, they lump themselves in with other immigrants all the time and form coalitions with them, even if they also see themselves as different and apart from them.

I watched it, it's not bad. It's really good, it's a little cheesy and leans into the kid vibe a bit too much at times.. but i'd watch it over the Snyder shit
the roster needs some young faces, and not supergirl or at least some other faces. I was never much of a DC guy past Batman and stuff.
supergirl is interesting and needs a teen titans esc group, she could play a good Starfire esc character I'd watch if they didn't go full retard
I'll tell you this I trust whoever made this movie to re-adapt franchises they're a little bit too campy but I would not ask him to change, not because I think it's be bad but more because I don't think he'd know how to lean into the adult aspect anymore without messing it up

Just because people found humor in the line doesn't mean it was treated as a joke in the film. Hoult didn't deliver the line in a humorous way or mug the camera. The humor of the line is entirely derived from the audience knowing information that Lex doesn't. The scene is still treated deadly serious in the context of itself.

The entire debate around the movie was that Boravia and Jarhanpur were a metaphor for the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, but finally getting to watch it, it was more like
Boravia=Russia coded
Jarhanpur=Palestine coded
Superman=Israel/Jew coded
Lex Luthor=America/Trump/Musk coded(basically the evil rich white businessman strawman jews created through media)
So Boravia vs. Jarhanpur just ends up being a vague metaphor for war(which cunningly evades evoking Israel) and Superman ends up representing tikkun olam.

Christopher Reeves nails the Super and the Man, and is the most comic book accurate. Endlessly rewatchable.
Henry Cavill nails the Super but not the Man, having incredibly good action in it, but terrible characterization (practically to the point of fundamentally breaking Snyder's 3 movies, and this goes for all the superheroes in it)
David Corenswet nails the Man, but not the Super, with great character moments and probably has the best scenes with Jonathan Kent and Martha Kent, but has godawful tiktok-tier action and horrid CGI
That's the definitive and true opinion.

I'd like to know your definition of characterization is. A man is judged by his deeds, not his words. Throughout Snyder's trilogy, we see Superman fighting brutal battles with the fate of the entire planet at stake in each movie. And, as Clark, he's a caring investigative journalist to a fault (Lex lured him into hating Batman).
We see him suffer through the consequences of his existence being known to the world. Malevolent forces within the deep state (Lex and ARGUS) conspire to destroy and assassinate him.

I’m totally open to the idea of a great Superman movie (as allegedly MoS sucks and deserves its 50% RT score) but it fell way below Man of Steel. Superman doesn’t need to be “dark” but he does deserve to be taken seriously and elevated. It’s possible to have both the iconic imagery of MoS and the silver age whimsicality.
Can we objectively admit that James Gunn is a terrible choice for the CEO of DC. One Superman movie yeah sure go for it but the entire thing is a trap for disaster. He hated the Dark Knight which is considered a gold standard for Superhero movies so you’re probably not going to see any stories that drift far from the style S2025 is. I prefer DC being controlled by a ragtag team of retard executives. I’ll take a mixture of really bad and good products over one man’s dull vision. DC from 2010-2016 was a really nice era to be in. Also Gunn’s disdain for origin stories which are the soul of superheroes tells you all you need to know.

The main problem with him controlling the entirety of DC productions is that eventually, if not right now every DC character will be exactly the same. Every movie and show will feel the same. Every character will talk the same way, behave the same way, be into the same things.

Im sick of arguing with this would've, could've, should've shit. Superman's arrival on Earth and the activation of the scout ship was inevitable. And actually the world is not better off without Murderman because the universe is ostensibly teeming with super powered beings, many of which are entirely malevolent. The state that humanity was in, normal non-poweres beings, is a step down from what they descended from.
Humans, Kryptonians, Atlantians, Amazons, all descend from a common ancestor. These ancestors were the gods and goddesses of old. Humanity is the abnormal group, not everybody else.

Superman 2025 is one of the worst superhero movies of all times. James Gunn, who excels in directing overdone violence, out of place quips, undeserved melodrama and perverted sex obsession brings all his trademark traits to this rendition of Superman. This isn't a Superman movie, it's a Marvel/Guardians of Galaxy movie with Superman in the middle of it. In fact, Gunn seems to enjoy writing Justice Gang far more than he does writing Superman. The former which ran off two jokes that were repeated ad nauseam throughout the movie.
What makes Superman a compelling character is gone in Gunn's sloppy adaption. He's not particularly strong, he's not particularly wise, he's a poor leader, he's extremely narcissist and gets easily emotional. And this is supposed to be a seasoned Superman. It's almost like Gunn was projecting his own shitty flawed character on to Superman. The only missing touch would be if Lois was a minor.
The action scenes are just a complete mess of CG blob. Superman is basically a rag doll that gets thrown all over the place and nothing in this movie has weight or meaning to it, particularly in its action. There's a scene where Lois and Mr Terrific break into enemy HQ and the whole ordeal is of course settled with a very catchy music montage of all the enemies being dismantled with utter ease. The next scene is of Clark trying to keep a CGI baby from drowning in lava with his deus ex dog arriving in timely manner to save him again. This is straight out of a Marvel movie and has no place in a Superman movie.
This rendition of Lex is also his most shallow depiction. There is no nuance or intelligence to this Lex. He's not particularly shrewd and constantly spills out his plans for everyone to find out. He throws into temper tantrums just like Superman and starts to sob and cry because Superman is better than him. Where is the elegance and intelligence of Luthor? This is basically a spoiled rich kid battling another spoiled strong kid. 1/10, MCU slop.

It's Starlordman that Reddit loves
These movies are pretty much the same
>reboot from franchise that was popular but hated by online critics and fanboys/soiboys
>release to forced shill narrative of how it's so much better than the prior movies (because it has less problematic elements, ie masculinity)
>movie is a financial bomb, the general audience doesn't care because they removed the elements they found previously appealing
>online soiboys damage control by blaming it all on the prior movies and claiming that surely the sequels will do much better now that its "reputation" has been saved
>makes the franchise fade to irrelevancy and the studio loses millions of dollars
What's this phenomenon called?

Gunn and the WB are playing the long game. Only team up capeshit sells post Covid. They knew Superman brand was trash. Goal of the movie was for it to get critical success and rebuild an audience. It only dropped 54% its second weekend compared to MOS 67% and had a strong hold against F4. Just made 3 million this weekend on 7th week and will end with a domestic close to 360 million. Next will be for Supergirl to get similar success before teaming them against Brainiac for Event Movie.

and you had Peacemaker saying how he made them all look bad. But then when The Gang didn’t want to get involved in international war but saw kids raising a flag for Superman to save the day, once again they felt like a bunch of assholes and came to help. So seems like The Gang is starting to fall behind Superman by end of the movie. And with Superman and Supergirl now with them in the Peacemaker recon, it’s confirmed

>Everyone says that about [Christopher Nolan’s] Batman Begins. “Batman’s dark.” I’m like, okay, “No, Batman’s cool.” He gets to go to a Tibetan monastery and be trained by ninjas. Okay? I want to do that. But he doesn’t, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that’s how that would go.
Snyder would love to adapt that

It's really mid, I think the main problem is the pacing. They throw you in the middle if the story and nothing much happening in the beginning, it's confusing and all characters are just talks. I especially don't like the interview scene with Lois, almost dropped the movie there because both main characters were so unlikable from the beginning. It gets better and surprisingly Lex in all his comedic villainy made this plot works. But still there is nothing much to see in this movie. Fighting scenes are mid and not really interesting, they are just there. Ultraman is lame, I wish they could pick more interesting character. Justice gang also were just there, only Mr. Terrific was relevant to the story and plot.

It's a terrible Superman film, but as a Guardians-style ensemble superslop vs superslop vs macguffin megaspectacle quipfest with an afterthought dash of insincere soul searching/fortune cookie lecture cringe, it's mildly entertaining. I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would, but I didn't really like it either.

Weakest part was the main plot. Getting involved in national disputes has always been more of an evil Superman thing, so it was weird that the conflict between the made-up nations was the central plot piece. Over the years, Superman's offered a variety of different reasons for why he doesn't just go pluck out all the nukes from every missile silo, or throw all the tanks into the sun, or assume leadership of the U.N., or whatever else, but the general idea remains the same: Superman believes it's wrong to involve himself in national disputes, and when he gets into them, it's generally in an alternate universe as part of a superman-turns-evil arc. So, odd choice.
Similarly, the "the Kents are my real parents" point is a central part of his character in all media he's ever appeared in, and nobody's ever had to turn his parents into actual Viltrumites to make it happen. That was just a weird, heavy-handed choice. Also, a few pieces of the film seemed to be more of a direct jab at the Snyder Superman rather than organic parts of the narrative (the "maybe that's the real punk rock" line is the most egregious), which stuck out to me a little more than they should.
The highlights, as usual with Gunn, were the characters that had enough screentime to get a few lines in. Superman was maybe the weakest here, but he was fine. Mr. Terrific was great, and Lex was the uncontested highlight of the film. Hoult owned it, and Lex was every inch the supervillain he ought to be. There was some cringe with how he operated (the fighting-game call outs when fighting Superman got to be a bit much) but there were more hits than misses. Also, I appreciated the monkey-bot farm, as silly as it was.
I think the combination of Fury Road + Nosferatu + this has brought Hoult into the same kind of category as Tim Blake Nelson for me; he may not always be in good movies, but he'll always be good in them.

It's nice, I liked it. Atleast we got a movie where Superman can be Superman.
