I'm just saying for me the 50's version is on an unimpeachable pedestal because I've seen it so many time, the concept of "movie" in my brain is partially formed by that particular film.
I also remember reading the book under my covers with a flashlight long after I was supposed to be asleep.
Treasure island is fortunate that you're really spoiled for choice when it comes to good adaptations when you throw treasure planet into the mix, which aside from being absolutely gorgeously animated and directed, gave everyone a ball busting catgirl waifu, and is also just a really solid retelling of treasure island with a really fun original sci-fi/fantasy/sailpunk coat of paint.

I saw this when it first released on amazon prime, the description sounded mildly interesting, and I saw "Nicholas Brendon" listed in the credits so I gave it a shot.
I really liked the opening and the set up, and was with the movie, then between random edits there would be blank frames.
Surely that was intentional, and it must be relevant to the plot, because no one would have done that by accident and not caught it before the final edit. Right?
That's a rookie editing mistake, even low budget trash made by people laundering money and abusing tax loopholes don't make that mistake.
So I watched the movie trying to be hyper aware of details and minutia, only for everything to fall apart half way through.

hey, that's not even the worst faux pas I've seen. for some reason one of my friends thought that boogie nights was some esoteric movie that was hard to come by back in 1999. back in my place he enthusiastically showed me his copy of boogie nights he copped from a yard sale, telling me we should watch it. I promptly showed him my boogie nights tape and told him I had already seen it. he was visibly shaken. I told him we should go to the thrift store down the street and we did, lo and behold there were three copies of boogie nights tapes for sale there. it must have hurt his ego. long story short we ended up smoking weed and measuring each others dicks with a ruler in the parking lot and we never did end up watching boogie nights. I later heard that marky mark had a ten inch wiener in it
