Impressive that Aster made a film which at least shows empathy towards a host of different beliefs. The left can't stand being mocked (even when they're shown as, at worst, annoying and disengenuous vs. the right being shown as murderous and insane).
Fantastic movie. The final moments with Joe and his nurse feels so perfect. The best hero we can hope for in a modern western is a vegetabilised sheriff being manipulated for his mother-in-law's financial benefit while being abused by his caretaker.
Brian and James Woods talking about "Big Mike" is maybe the first reference to "transvestigation" I've ever heard in any movie.

I think things have become so polarized that honest "sane" examinations of both sides end up making more people angry than if you just leaned into one side over the other. I'm left-leaning but the leftist seethe over this movies portrayal of performative BLM'ers is ridiculous.

This movie dethroned No Country as best Neo-Western ever. Phoenix proves he is the greatest actor of the last 50 years. The last act is balls-to-the-wall nuts and satisfying plot-wise. I hope Aster keeps making his movies longer and longer because it's clear he knows how to keep the narrative not only moving but intriguing.
Fuck, this movie was stellar, and the SolidGoldMagikarp easter egg is a rabbithole I'm still falling down.

Is this the first political movie ever that endorses centrism or moderatism? I.e. both extremes are the cause and cascading result of everyone's misfortune?
