Tbf I prefer Weapons to Sinners. Sinners last 1/3 was pretty bad while Weapons builds into a very satisfying finale.

I got out of the movie. Was it meant to be comedic when Alex was force feeding soup to people under the witch's spell?

Also was the witch really his aunt? Also why did the dad of that one kid return back to normal the moment the witch died but the kids or Alex's parents did not?

Finally watched weapons because of all the praise. It was okay. I love brolin and the old lady was solid but the mystery was very weak, tension and atmosphere I expected more, and after the midway point it doesn't even come close to having more scares. At best it's mildly disturbing. Shame because the brolin chapter had me excited. You have to absolutely throw out any kind of realism because the thought they wouldn't have better checked that house or found the kids when they ran out or thought the parents were weird.

>what exactly is hysterical about children being made to brutally attack people and tear them apart? are you a psychopath?

It was meant to be comedic. Like the soup feeding scene, these are bits meant to be comedic.
The ending where they tear the witch apart as she is shrieking and people are just looking with bewilderment is a reference to Smiling Friend's

I don't think so. Since nobody actually knew or met her.
>Also why did the dad of that one kid return back to normal the moment the witch died but the kids or Alex's parents did not?
He was only under her spell for a moment. The others were under the spell for a long term, and suffered long term brain damage from being in a catatonic state.

A kid feeding soup to his classmates because they are under the spell of an old lady with clown make up borders on the absurd which makes it funny. Him buying all the soup at the store and walking by himself to his creepy house where police couldnt bother to monitor is hilarious. Sinners sucked, audiences don't need to be preached to. Movies should be fun, all of the best movies are fun to watch and don't contain any or much social commentary. That's why weapons was so refreshing, it wasn't trying hard to be anything other than entertaining.

There was not much comedy in the movie aside from the finale. Other than the crackhead scenes and the gay couple eating a big tray of hot dogs I didn't notice any deliberate attempts at comedy, the film is morbid and you're kind of fucked in the head for thinking there was much to laugh at. The ending is only really funny because the rest of the movie has been such a showcase of misery up until that point.

This movie helped me realize that its good practice to have very distinct character "types" in movies like these since names won't always stick in your brain. When you say
>the teacher
>the father
>the principal
>the kid
>the witch
>the cop
You know which character I mean since there's really only 1 significant role for each of those. Probably pretty obvious for 99% of people but it's something that dawned on me watching Weapons.

It was above his own house. It's how he interprets the "weaponized" movement of the people under the control of the witch. An AR15 is the first thing an average American man would think of when he thinks of a weapon.

Anonymous No.213983386 >>213983432

There was definitely a lot of intended comedy (I mean James was pretty much nothing but goofball junkie shit to laugh at) but the movie also takes a lot of risks as far as walking the line between goofy and creepy. One scene in particular, when the mom initially walks out of the house with that weird stilted posture, got laughs in the theater when I saw it, which kind of annoys me. It's hard to do uncanny stuff in horror cuz theres always a chance audiences will just find it funny since "horror" to them is a scary demon screaming and tearing someone's dick off rather than anything grounded but unnatural.
