Nothing to do with the actual contents of the movie. The "WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY" meme and the ethos around it existed YEARS before this movie was made. Right-wing white men latched on to the Joker character long before this movie. The first movie was never about political sides. It was about social classes. It was glorified by anyone who felt wronged and oppressed by the system (and that could be a /pol/ poster as much as a twitter queer with pronouns in his bio), that's why it was such a cultural phenomenon.
