One day in the year of the fox came a time remembered well when a strong young man of the rising sun heard the tolling of the great black bell.

The film would have been much better if Tom Bombadil was in it.

Bookfags say this, but they would hate it if Tom was actually in the movie because then they couldn't say this all the time. I say this as a bookfag.

King Kong is boring and could have used a little more pizzazz.

Did anyone ever look back at the oscars and such regarding the LotR films as rather...bizarre? They neglected the first 2 films from my memory and then lavished praise on the last one, as if they had to "wait" on the first 2's quality to see the ending? As if they are not films in their own right to be judged on their own merits.

This is one of the rare ocassions where the Academy did something right. Lord of the Rings is one novel that was released in three volumes. The same is true for the movies. They were all shot simultaneously.

Filmfags say that Tom is too silly for the portentous and epic mode of the films, but they seem to overlook that Jackson introduced irreverent comic relief where there was none in the book. Merry, Pippin, Gimli, and occasionally Legalos are converted to comedy chucklefucks in Jackson's Fellowship, and I don't see why Bombadil would be out of place in that circus.

The films are shit by the way. Read the books for the real experience.

The film would have been much better if there were a 30 minute narration by Bilbo or Frodo explaining what Hobbits are

They literally can’t even explain why his inclusion would make the movie better. It’s just on the same level as screaming β€œIM SMART” into the void

This is what the Academy always does. It's always late to the party. It's the reason Marty Scorsese won for the Oscar for Wolf of Wall Street and not Raging Bull or Taxi Driver. With LOTR, enough time had passed and the full trilogy had been released, showing that it carried a level of bullshit pedigree that appeased the Academy.

What tarnishes the film for me -- aside from the inexcusable omission of Bombadil -- is the music, that fucking twee, cutesy doo-doo-doo-dee-doo-doo-doo music that plays during the "heartwarming" moments, and also the Enya shit with the pan pipes. Just awful.

Film is an audio and visual medium. Why does an integral part of it trigger your autism so hard? It’s ridiculous. Imagine if some dork came along and started crying about visuals

Someday, when the barrel is down to its very last scrapings, and every character has had their own spinoff, they will finally make the film about Gandalf's 17-year homework assignment.
