people seem to forget but south park used to have a decently-sized writer's room like the simpsons, with big names like bill hader working on episodes. in fact some of the most popular episodes like the fishsticks one came from him. you could also notice how tightly the episodes were structured and had a clear start middle and end, and how multi-part episodes were planned out from the beginning. then around the end of 2015 it started to fall apart. the season 19 finale was rushed and unplanned, then season 20 came and the same thing happened again. from there it was clear that the old writing staff had all left, because while there were still some laughs here and there the show just didn't have the same comedic punch that it used to. matt and trey have become the george lucas of south park, where no one can say anything to them even if they can't properly finish an episode (like the ice one from this season).
