I like Shran but nah. Sadly, Shran episodes are pretty weak aside from the very first one and largely because his plots rely on Archer to be incompetent and get saved by the Andorians or someone else.

You can't fix a broken show and there's too much broken about ENT for one character to fix.
That character still has to exist in the world of ENT's drab and shoddy writing quality.

Also, ENT is so serialized that you can't disentangle it from its bad plots. It's way more serialized than DS9.
Meanwhile, VOY is episodic so you can enjoy its many great one-off episodes without feeling the need to swallow some bitter pill about a Temporal Cold War or some 9/11 plot about the Xindu Nothing Wrongs.

Honestly, besides in appearance, I think CONT Kirk and Spock do a better Kirk and Spock than TOS, though I should note that I place both under the movie performances. I would also argue that the writing of CONT just about perfected and as good as most of the best episodes of any Star Trek series. The only thing I dislike about it is how they force the counsellor in every episode when she was really only acceptable in the first one.

Spock's performance in TOS is almost always perfect. He plays the human/Vulcan internal conflict like nobody else. Not only does he perfect how a Vulcan should act when Spock is perfectly in control but he's also adding layers beneath it.
Also, show Shatner > movie Shatner and it isn't even close.

The TOS movies are fun adventures and the characters are more whimsical and free but TOS itself is very serious. Captain Kirk is no bullshitter, he is a severe autocrat of a captain who treats duty with extreme sobriety of character.

Been rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation, just finished off season 1 with The Neutral Zone. I've always loved the character of Ralph Offenhouse, apparently in one of the DS9 novels he later becomes the Federation trade ambassador to the Ferengi which I find very funny. It also features I believe Marc Alaimo's first Star Trek role, and his quip to Picard of "Silence your dog" when Worf interrupts him is awfully Gul Dukat-esque. I wonder if the writers were inspired by how he played Trebok when they wrote Dukat.
