Technically, yes, but it didn't have much staying power so really only the small segment who were in high school when it came out were huge fans. Everyone eventually saw it on cable and most liked it, but it wasn't a cultural touchstone after it left theaters. A lot about the movie feels 70s rather than 80s, regardless of its actual release date, which gives it a boomer flavor. Cameron Crowe, pic related, wrote it based on going back to high school in 1979 when he was 22, which is why it feels so boomer.

Why are you so obsessed with graduating classes? You're an adult at that point. I'd say the defining movie when I was growing up was Jurassic Park, also 93, when I was ten. Failing that, maybe Men in Black 97. I'd say both of these are more defining than anything in 2001. I love Fellowship of the Ring, but I didn't watch it at the movies. Most people don't really care that much about going to the movies when they've just turned 18.

Gen Xers would be 1990 - 2005. That'd be Jurassic Park, Toy Story, Titanic, the Matrix, Prequel Star Wars.

Correct. The defining film-age is for when the people of your generation are around 25 years old. Boomers were born 1946-1964, that makes their film age 1970-1989.

Gen Xers were born 1965-1980, that makes their film age 1990-2005. And so on.

Because the parents liked it, retard. Do you think parents were dropping off their babies in bassinets at the movie theater and telling them to have a good time? The kids who didn't grow up with Star Wars weren't the ones who disliked Star Wars, their parents were. Kids don't pick out what they get exposed to and what they get to watch, their parents do.

And if you're too retarded to understand the different between free children's television cartoons on public channels and big budget movies, then you're not equipped to have this conversation.

Boomers: The Big Chill
Gen X: Rules of Attraction
Millennials: Scott Pilgrim
Gen Z: Ready Player One

Notice how the movies become more anti-social, meta, and detached from reality with each generation. Boomers is this youthful and narcissistic drama about friends. Rules of Attraction is similar but more cynical and begins to be about detachment as characters find themselves disassociating. Scott Pilgrim is childish and new earnestness where the MC grows by treating life like a video game. Gen Z is completely absorbed in nostalgia for the past of other generations (particularly Gen X). The world is dystopic and people prefer virtual realities.

Nobody has time for TV when they're 25, Anon, you work 8-12 hours a day, go home, pass out, eat, shit, shower and go back to work.

Primary television consumption is 8-18 or so. Maybe 20 if you're a late bloomer going to a faggoty community college. All of your generational films are a generation late.

DEFINING films got to have some sort of a message. It's not just a blockbuster of a certain year. The Breakfast Club is such a movie. American Graffiti as well. They perfectly catch the vibe of an era, the style of a generation.
>>213999057
Dazed is set in the 70s and came out in 93. It has nothing to do with millenials who were 12 at most when it came out.
>>214009215
Millenials are 1981-1996 so most gen-X were not teens in the 90s.
>>214012188
Gen-Z are the first generation born into the internet so they deserve recognition as well. Us millenials and xoomers have softer definitions I would say.

In my opinion.
Boomers: Star Wars: A New Hope & Dazed and Confused (positive messages of achieving success or coolness through circumstance and no real work on one's own)
Gen-X: Clerks and The Breakfast Club (cool hip rebellious vibe of teens/early adults lackadaisically and sarcastically attempting to subvert authority)
Millennial: Fight Club and Office Space (main protagonists dissociate from society based on the unhappiness crisis of meeting societal expectations and "doing everything right")
Zoomer: Ready Player One and Space Jam 2 (completely retreating from reality into total fantasy because of how untenable everyday life has become).
