False memories from movies
It's funny, I remember feeling a very visceral sense of betrayal as a kid when I watched Legend and Lili went dark, and I recalled her being way more into Darkness. Rewatching the movie as an adult, she denies him every step of the way and even when she gives in she's just playing him to free the unicorn.

Thats because she dances. Thats so memorable that you think that she more gave in than reject the darkness.

We are not the same. I badly wanted her to turn and join Darkness for real and was sad by the end. But I also wanted Luke to join his father and rule the galaxy in Star Wars...was I the only 90s kid who like that?

the added moment of darkness stepping out the mirror are awful, the soundtrack is generic cringe, and darkness is waaay more of a simp.. i'm sure there's more too but i saw it once realized how ridley scott is mostly a bad director and legend is a great movie in spite of him not because of him

i like your collage it's such a great movie but i do prefer the original

I should watch the original then.

I only watched three Ridley Scott movies; this, Gladiator and The Last Duel. The latter was pretty good actually, even if it had overbearing digital color grading. Gladiator was also incredible.

they're very different so much so that there's a lot of disagreement over which is better. the director's cut does add a lot but someimes less is more!

haven't seen the last duel yet i'm not much of a ridley scott fan.. i loved the counselor though but apparently most everyone hates it XD

black rain and of course blade runner and its sequel and the obvious alien. thelma and lousie is okay too!

I dont understand why, the technology isn't lost,
a lot of the people who made these are still working,
cinemaphiles would line up around the block to go see a movie like this in theaters on repeat if made today
Anonymous No.214003687
>>214003618
not as many are still working, a portion of those left probably switched to the new tech due to studio mandates. the future is pitch black 1v1 shots with poor sound mixing.

What I really love about its cinematography is how dark most of the scenes are. It's clearly a low budget production, most of the sets seem cheap and a lot of the effects are cleverly improvised, so darkness was weaponized a lot of the time to hide most of the details, and simultaneously enhance the atmosphere. it works really well.

>>214003618
>the technology isn't lost
it's literally a technology problem, though. old films were shot on actual film, modern ones use digital camera. that's a big part of the problem.

Everyone moved on to digital and CGI. It would be really expensive to bring back the old tech. With CGI / green screen slop you can let people in the third world do most of the work for cheap.
The major costs are the star power actors, marketing and wages.

Lots of 80s directors/cinematographers used "soft lighting" light bulbs (which probably don't even exist now) for the set lighting. And with nothing but practical effects, they made a bigger effort in the visuals than they do now.

No, and there's a lack of satisfying stories that take this angle. That said Star Wars definitely should not have done this even if I also had that impulse as a kid, the way the original trilogy is told is also perfection because few stories take the "Redeem the Father" angle too, as opposed to "Defeat".

I saw robocop as a kid. Murphy getting blown to bits freaked me out. In my babby mind the death scene was way more brutal and over the top. Things that never happened in the movie were in my memory. It was horrifying to remember. I hated robocop for years and would shit talk the movie if it ever came up.

Rewatching it as an adult and realizing not only was that scene, while brutal, wasn't that bad but the movie as a whole was hella fucking epic I felt a weird sense of relief and guilt.

European Cut - 93 minutes, Jerry Goldsmith score
American Cut - 89 minutes, butchered for dumb american teenagers with awful Tangerine Dream score
Director's Cut - 114 minutes, best version again with Goldsmith score

There was also a 150 minute cut that's probably better than all of these but is lost forever.

That's what I've read, but it seems like that would be going to a more specific Christian mythos, away from the very basic good and evil fantasy we mostly get. God and Satan are never directly mentioned. There's just that one scene where Darkness is talking to his offscreen father.

Her husband, Brian Henson was also there. It was a double screening with Labyrinth, and they happen to be married.

It is.
Or rather, it is in a pipeline that you can't move.
I could shot a movie with the same cameras as the ones used in Legend, but you will NOT watch it in a 3:4 screen.
Those pics you see there are heavily altered, that's not how a 1985n tech movie looks like
