This is the most underrated film of all time.
It's so damn incredible. There are other neat films that haven't garnered enough attention, but they are not cinema. Not like this.

It’s a good, fun movie, but this is such a film bro take. It’s really not that special. A good watch, but not a forgotten masterpiece that you film fuckers make it out to be.

Wages of Fear has better characters but Sorcerer has better setpieces. The bridge scene is one of the finest sequences ever committed to cinema.

Hogwash. Wages is better shot, has better pacing, it feels more dire, real, desperate, the climax is gruesome, it's fucking French? No comparison.

At one point, it was probably underrated and on the cusp of being forgotten. Now it's probably the most overused way for film dilletantes to signal to others their impeccable taste in movies. If it shows up in anybody's lists of favorites, I know to immediately disregard their opinions about anything.

eh thats not the issue. since OP presents it in such a memeish way "THIS IS THE GOAAAATTTTT, WOW REAL CINEMA"
its fair to take it as a red flag, that the perceived motivation by this is to be "welcomed" into the "ingroup" by knowing their memes, rather than actually loving this movie itself.

those are just dudebro picks, I think he meant movies that the average normie won't be aware of but will have been completely worn out in more movie-aware circles.
for example, the lighthouse comes to mind as a tryhard pick a movie newbie would champion to seem more insightful or interesting in his tastes than they really are

I love that movie so fucking much.
And you're wrong btw. It didn't kill anything by itself, it was the studio executives who were looking for any excuse to strangle the creative-authoritarian minds that elevated the bar. Those movies, along with waterworld, were sacrificed so that greed could run rampant.

dudebro is a good way to explain the phenomenon i was trying to.
so, you have a friend, a "dudebro" and you know hes just not that into deep analytical observation or whatever. he's not cerebral. but he comes to you and says "oh man i looovedd fightclub, it was so awesome how they boxed in the bar" now he enjoyed it, but not on a deeper level. theres nothing wrong with that, its just a very cliched movie and most people just take their own base level observations from it. durden is so chad. guerilla terrorism rules, etc. but really its a commentary on the emptiness of modern male living, and etc. depressing stuff.
im just rambling at this point i dont even know what im trying to say, theres nothing wrong with dudebro liking fightclub and not being an observant nerd picking up on symbolism. but the issue becomes, when i want to discuss the deep things i see and like in fightclub, im now assosciated with dudebro and i just want to punch people and blow shit up or whatever.

Boring shit. I skipped through it. None of the 50 seconds was worth watching. All shit. Don't push it. Some things are just shit and people push them hard as if that will make them not shit. Force an opinon critics presented or something "common knowledge" it was good propagated like things are built off it.

It's just shit. Have standards. This movie was the best some parasite could do, and it's worthless. All the resources that went into it were misplaced. No a truck over a bridge is not entertainment.

dudebros are normies. actual normgroids. they're the ones who parrot pulp fiction, fight club and the like as the pinnacle of cinema.
a film dilettante is not that, think letterboxd user who rates directors such as friedkin, kurosawa and some flavorless french crap as the absolute paramount of the artform, while being surface-level in their takes and worst of all, impersonal (borrowing points made by others instead of interpreting the works through their own experience and beliefs).

I watched Sorcerer first thinking Wages of Fear would feel outdated and mediocre, but if anything Wages makes Sorcerer feel completely redundant. Henri-Georges Clouzot manages to keep the tension simmering while Friedkin's vision is much more inconsistent in tone
