What blows me away about Spirited Away is in the middle of the movie, there's a 20 min long scene where a giant shit monster takes a bath, and shit goes everywhere, covering everyone and everything in the bath house. Multiple characters die by drowning in shit.
It's the most over-animated and over-done sequence in any piece of anime ever made, it must have taken miyazaki's team of animators and illustrators 6 months working 16 hour days 7 days a week to complete. It must have cost millions.

And why? For no reason other than miyazaki had so much clout, that he could just spend all that money and time forcing people to animate a giant shit monster spreading shit everywhere. It serves no purpose in the film at all.

And while i'm at it, Isao Takahata > Miyazaki. Especially when you get a bit older. Only Yesterday is an absolutely beautiful film.

Nausical is easily one of his worst female protagonists. A near totally soulless and personality-less girl when compared to the likes of Kiki or Fio. The most it has is the typical beatifal Ghibli art and animation, otherwise it is easily one of the worst most cobbled together lots of the Ghibli collection. I would rather watch Arrietty 100 times in a row than watch Nausiciousa ever again.

Nausicaa is literally exactly the same as Princess Mononoke but worse in every way. Same story, same themes, same characters, but less complex, less well written, less layered, and more juvenile. Anyone saying its their best does so because its their least well known Miyazaki movie. Thats it.
