I mean, how can you be mad at that? Black people every day live with the crushing doubt of their white comrades thinking of them as nothing more than a nigger- as unfair as it may sound, hearing it come out of the mouth of someone you love and respected brings a lot of out you/ rejection, betrayal, regret- all traumatic emotions that rooted into the black psyche due to years of trauma from within and outside of their community- Sal was pushed to a point, but you gotta remember things like him threatening buggin’ out with a bat, his racist son (that’s taught), people store things like this into their subconscious, once sal uttered that word the barrier of trust was broken and the black people went crazy-…if you think that’s wrong, fine.
But it doesn’t mean the film sucks or Lee is a bad writer, the film wouldn’t be discussed and used for lessons in schools to this day if it was bad, it’s a masterpiece- im not asking you to understand the black plight or even think it makes sense, but it wasn’t just a random chimp out like people think, they thought Sal saw them as family but really they may have just been customers…if money wasn’t involved would Sal really see them as people? The ending with Mookie’s wages may answer this question, but it’s rather ambiguous
Excellent film and should have won best picture
