They were all middle aged dads/guys who lost the zest for life. They thought that it was the drinking that brought them joy and excitement in their younger days but it was that they were young men hanging out and looking forward to a limitless future.
The initial “success” of the test was that they felt like young men again. Hanging out together, doing something fun/against the rules, something that was their secret. And the possibility of success again meant the future was limitless.
But then too much drinking, consequences, death, etc.
I think the point wasn’t booze in moderation, but rather excitement and life comes from discovery, community, and “living life” not falling into routine and taking the safest path to a “normal life”.
Or idk, maybe don’t leave your shit around the workplace and don’t piss yourself in front of your wife and kids.
