Is /tv/ excited for SNL season 51? Rumor is half the cast is gonna be fired and/or quitting. One site even reports there’s plans for a new Weekend Update team, so I guess Jost and Che are leaving? Also that one useless black guy who never does anything funny was the first just announced as not coming back.

That would be a mistake, they’re pretty much the only funny part of the show anymore. The regular skits are ass. Also what would they even leave SNL for? Doing weekend update usually was a gateway to break into hosting a late night talk show or something like that but late night tv is clearly dying so they’re just leaving to vanish into obscurity like everyone else who leaves SNL now I guess? Comedy movies are dead too, SNL leading to bigger things is a model that no longer exists.

I think it's because I'm not American but I've never found any snl bit funny. I've watched a few of the "greatest ever bits" and I just... don't get it. Le current event but with le funny voice and screwing up your face.

They don’t cast who’s the funniest anymore (the days the cast was either all white or all white with one black guy) but now they hire based on what token race someone fills. i am american and nobody here thinks its funny either. it on late at night and only a few people ever watched so it didnt take much to keep the show on the air. its from new york and to us americans anything from new york is just the coolest thing ever. so most people would tune in and pretend to laugh sometimes because they thought if they didnt it would make them uncool
