There's just no telling what materials the objects were made of or what the alien acid actually is. It stands to reason its unearthly and has weird properties we can't exactly observe here, but we also don't know what most materials in the setting are made out of, like if we still use steel for everything or if its some alloy or if everything is some sort of polymer or what. In EP3 when Morrow is reading up about Kavalier, he sees this article:
