Almost entirely threw out the source material but not in a way that comes across as being as hateful as when others do it (maybe it's just that nobody gave a shit about the source material in this case) to really craft the basic idea into something better suited to the medium than the source medium

All of these movies except a beautiful mind are still talked about today (even if pearl harbours relevance now is largely just from another movie shitting on it)
In 24 years from now you would look at a much larger list of this year's movies and struggle to remember more than a handful of them.

the average capeshit of the past decade billions, marvel does not give a fuck if the movies will be remembered fondly in 20 years. even better, capeshit had a formula - studios knew resk and reward beforehand. many of those movies from 2001 were a gamble, financially.

It was a parody film of classic Disney that was actually funny.

this sucked so much compared to a bugs life, its not even funny. dreamworks shot itself in the foot with it, they looked like they copied pixar, on par with fucking ratatoing

Shrek was the first 2001 movie to gross more than 200 million domestically. The Mummy Returns and Rush Hour 2 were the next ones.
