17 kids disappearing in such a bizarre way would be national news for months and the feds would turn over ever single rock in that town and thoroughly question every person in the county.

I didn't think this was awful or anything, but I quite sincerely don't even understand how anyone would view it as special. In almost no respect was it remarkable. I felt the same with Longlegs last year but that was even worse. I am not an 'old good new bad' kind of guy, but anytime I watch a new, praised horror movie it almost always feels so mediocre it really makes me long for the days of movies like The Fly and From Beyond.
