When exactly did narrated trailers go out of style?
"IN A WORLD" and "THIS SUMMER" haven't been relevant for decades now.

Was there a year when studios just decided to drop dedicated voice-overs in trailers?

dont they still show these guys of narrated trailers in say, upcoming attraction previews in like a movie theater?
my initial explanation for your question would be, having to do with media moving to being on demand thanks to the internet.
before, when a trailer like this would be seen, it was during a commercial segment. so it had to be really exciting and catchy.
movie trailers dont need to do that anymore, they can be moody, forboding, mysterious, etc, because you seek them out online, can rewatch them and they can become a medium for creating a vibe/atmosphere/aesthetic, rather than the focus being "GET THIS FATASSES ATTENTION"

around the same time as music videos switched to having a cut every 3 seconds.

they became a corny recurring joke in media so they stopped doing this

The guy who did the voiceovers died zoomer. It was fairly big in the news at the time

most of the recognizable trailer guys (Don LaFontaine, Hal Douglas, Mark Elliott) died, that and if whoever's cutting the trailers can convey the narrative without voiceover it's another cost saved

I'd be stoked to see a film advertised in a few different trailer styles. 50s style where they just tell you what happens, a nice 70s style weird abstract abomination, 90s style 'in a world', and then 2010s BWOOHM style.

Voice over became a joke trope and turned into "ironic" trailer narration for kids movies.

The main trailer guy died and they didn't repalce him. He would go to a recording booth for hours and just record trailers and commercials, and some wouldn't come out for years. I think some shit around 2010 still had his voice, 2 years after his death.

people got dummer so they just replaced all talking in trailers with BRRRRRRRRMMM

probably this. i imagine the vast majority of people just watch trailers on their phones nowadays and a lot of them might do it on mute. less and less people paying for regular tv and going to the movies so trailers are largely just seen on phones now. especially by young people.

It's definitely not because the old voices died cause there's plenty of voice actors for that, it was just parodied too much so it became cheesy to do that

The style was different.

90s trailers were all about making allusions to the kind of film you'd be watching, and cleverly weaving in scenes from the film to show you. 50s trailers often just straight up described the whole films plot.

Bad 90s trailers spoiled the film but that wasn't the state of the art. Like with 'the Matrix' they were often able to keep very major spoilers out of public knowledge entirely.
