His style gets more ascetic and severe over time so it’s best to boil yourself like a frog rather than assblast yourself on one of his late stage films. (His first two films are good but do not really represent his style. He took some time off to reflect on what his philosophy was after making them and came back with his characteristic style. But they are good. I’d recommend watching his 3 1950s movies and then if you’re fully onboard watch his first two, and Les Affaires Publiques if you’re a masochist like me. I find her refusal to sign old records and memorabilia at concerts to be a bit of a shame, but alas, per her own admission, SY was a "boys' club", and primarily Thurston and Lee's project. No Home Record and The Collective are definitely streets ahead of anything either of them have been involved in since the disbandment, even if I'm quick to admit that Lee was easily the most talented songwriter-lyricist among them, and Thurston was the real driving creative force behind the project, as you mentioned.
