I think Lynch was trying to force the producer to make it a two part movie so he blew all his resources and time on the first half. After paul and jessica met the fremen it fell apart.
And of course Lynch would have been right in this. its ridiculous to try and fit the entirety of Dune into a single movie.

It could have been one of the greatest movies ever made but the fat, fucking producer thought it was going to be the next star wars and lost his nerve when he found it wasn't to be.

You DUMB illiterate animal. The point of Dune is the dangers of a Hero and the cult that arises from him. The Hero can be anyone of any political flavor. In Dune, it was a religious Hero. If you read the book, the Fremen were willing to patiently wait and work for hundreds of years to carry out Liet's teachings until Paul showed up and short circuited their society.

Pretty accurate. All the shit we think matters in politics is usually far less predictive of history than where all the important resources are.
Why do you think Russia invaded Ukraine? Because they were threatened by NATO? Or because they wanted the rare earth metals in Eastern Ukraine and access to warm water ports?
Why do you think we invaded Iraq? Because we were threatened by fictional nuclear / chemical weapons? Or because we wanted to install a puppet government that would give us good deals on oil?
