Me and my family used to stop at cracker barrel every time we made a long roadtrip. The gift shop was pretty fun to look at while waiting for your table/waiting for dad to pay the bill. I took my family to one last week during a trip to the beach, and it was exactly like I remember as a kid, same decor, same table games, a spot to play checkers, rocking chairs, even the menu was the same. The prices weren't bad too either, it was about $35(including tip) for 2 adults and a kid. My kid was just as enamoured with all the old timey stuff everywhere. The old folks who were regulars stopped to talk to us and asked where we were from - it was nice. Then the next day I find out they're getting rid of all of it. Fuck modernity. I know it's just a chain restaurant but it has a lot of sentimental and nostalgic value for millions of (white) people

It's a restaurant chain specializing in decently authentic southern food. Won't knock your socks off but a welcome reprieve on road trips. The biggest draw is the aggressively 1800s-early 1900s aesthetics. Walls are covered in americana, they even had antique people on retainer looking for authentic stuff to put in restaurants. There's also a gift shop which is like catnip to middle aged and older southern women.

The logo change is awful, but the real offense was their "remodel" which made it look like every other soulless chain.
