Post your ACTUAL favorite movie.

I don't care how cringey, how embarrassing, how shitty, how dumb, I wanna see it. I don't care if it's a children's film, if it's nearly 100 years old. I want to know what your REAL favorite movie is.

Not the one that seems like the right choice.

It's truly a shame we'll never get another kino like this because Shane is a raging schizo. Then again if he weren't, he may never have been able to make it.

What even happened to him? Wasn’t he writing some script about large wooden robots or am I actually the schizo?

Dark City. It just so happens to be my favorite film AND the right choice. Enjoy good sir.

It's an incredible blend of surrealism, sci fi, misery, introspection, and bittersweet love. And the music is really great.
It's great.

Sorry but it's the pinnacle of Hollywood for me.
It all went down afterwards and never reached that height again.

Truthfully, only watched the first 30 or so minutes but god it was boring and went seemingly nowhere. And I like the trippy pretentious kind of movies most don't like, see image.

it filtered the fuck out of my then wife, too.
my shortest explanation is that it is a "sentient, universally foreign film".
it "senses" that you can understand some events/situations despite the language barrier (you should be able to recognize situations of grief/joy/humor. film trickles these in slowly from the start, language barrier artificially made by dropping you in the middle of a meandering plot and increases throughout), then starts rearranging itself to increase the frequency and intensity of those events/situations you can understand until the movie is "language-less-ly" speaking directly to you, but in a way that should have walked you towards realizing it was doing that gradually.
if you can never connect with any of the situations and events and are just there for a visual spectacle or don't realize what is happening, the movie just seems boring and confusing a la "but i did have breakfast this morning"

>most kino director of all time
>about being trapped in an endless dream
>different animators for every scene to really enforce that dream like quality
>got a bunch of different professors, writers, philosophers and authors and just, as the zoomoids would say, "let them cook"
>and finally: quite possibly one of the best soundtracks of all time. I imagine this is what will play in my mind as I die and my brain releases a bunch of chemicals that cause my consciousness to float along forever in an eternal dream

There is no greater kino in this world than Waking Life. If you haven't seen it before, you're doing yourself a disservice. Even if you hate the movie and the plot and script, you can't deny that from a technical standpoint, it's a marvel of animation and artistry.

There hasn't been a movie like this since, and there likely never will be.

Shame is the most emotionally affecting movie I've ever seen, I love the escalation and de-escalation of tension. They establish Sissy trying to call Brandon over and over and you're thinking "damn these two have a really unsalvageable relationship" then when she just shows up inside his apartment in a minute they're laughing. It really do be that way.

Nice, I was just thinking a moment ago about how much I liked the portrayal of the Riddler in this. There was this weird little one-off supplemental thing included I think with a deluxe edition of the Killing Joke or something where there was this weedy guy with glasses explaining that he needed to know if he was really a good person and the only way to check would be to do something horrible and then see if he felt bad afterward. He poses the idea of feeding a little girl to sewer rats or something then decides that's not bad enough and decides he's going to kill the Batman. Anyway Dano was a dead ringer for the guy and he seemed more like that one-off character than the Riddler. But in a cool way.
