Oh awesome ya I'm glad you remember that part. So check out this scene and how its shot. In particular the angles. The scene you're talking about is the one where the dinos look most epic, but I rewatched the original kind of recently so it was real hard not to compare it. The scene you're talking about the scientist runs over and touches the leg and its a straight on shot. Like exactly what you said the whip tail shit is awesome CG, but the shots are somehow lamer than the original.

Just saw weapons and it's a fun movie but I don't get the hype. The actress who plays Gladys was wonderfully scary. There was nothing groundbreaking about the film, though. I'm not a horror fan, so. Zach will be great for Res Evil.

I watched the first two and it's watchable so far.

I guess I'd like it more if there was some plot-y reason they need to send kids in android bodies away from the island. It seems like an insanely risky thing to do. I also feel like there's a weird lack of resources being thrown at the wrecked ship. They have this big opportunity to get one over on Weyland-Yutani and they have some child robots and national guard tier troops wandering around the ship in pairs? They should have mapping drones, sentry guns, and other tech we've seen in other installments.

There's some big budget ones (The Haunting in 1999) and the FD franchise starts about there, Saw soon after, but most the jokey/teen focus ones that lead up to the Scary Movie franchise die off once the horror movie budget got big.
For a nice middle period spooky between the two waves, try The Others (2001, I think), or The Sixth Sense or The Haunting (this one suffers from the budget stretching to CGI)

It Follows was particularly tragic because the heroine isn't in love with the guy she hooks up with in the beginning. She doesn't even seem particularly attracted or horny. She's just doing it because she's bored or "hooking up" is expected.
