>Jesus Christ Walter, how dare you get cancer and make us incredibly rich by selling druggerinos while I was busy smoking and fucking Ted. I can't believe you, you monster
>>214044273 >Has literal cartel members and other criminal associates arrive to his house on multiple occasions unannounced while his wife and children were still living there
>>214044980 >becomes a career criminal murderer and drug dealer despite multiple other options >gets people killed, brings down his entire family >Ackchyually, he was the good guy all along!
There are retards who make memes like "If Breaking Bad was set in Canada the show would have ended on episode 1, because Walt would get free treatment." These retards didn't even watch the show. He didn't do it to raise money to treat his TERMINAL cancer, he did to make money to support his family after he's gone. Second of all, he would die waiting for his treatment in Canada.
>>214046112
In Canada he'd be put in a pod and killed. The MAID program just tells terminal people to kill themselves and not even bother waiting because if you get one it's basically gg.

I won't argue whether he's good or not, but people who put him in the same category of evil as characters like the twins and Lalo, characters who killed completely innocent people that weren't even involved, are fucking retarded. The worst Walt did was poison a kid to manipulate Jesse, knowing it wouldn't be enough to kill him.

Walter did it for his family. He just changed course last second because Skyler said "If you say you did it for your family..." and Walt knew if he said it he wouldn't get a chance to see his daughter again. So he lied to make Skyler happy.
>>214046378 >yeah i got involved with psychopathic murderers for my family, swallowing my pride and taking the cushy gig at gray matter wouldnt have been good and safe enough for them
lol you're retarded
>>214046378
Bullshit. He started off telling himself that's why but it's always been the thrill ride for a smart but Insignificant man who has no business sense.
>>214046981
I think, in the beginning, it was a combination of both. Then it slowly morphed into a COMPLETE ego trip and he was actively jeopardizing his family to get more money than they'd ever need >How big does this pile need to be? >I'm in the empire business
>>214044038 (OP)
This scene had to be added because the audience was too retarded to read between the lines that were very clearly spelled out in S1. The tourists that latched on to the show from S4 onwards were absolute paste eaters.
>>214047218
it's nice however to see the character himself realize the truth >>214044239 >>214046378
You're wrong. Walter lied to himself and used his family as an excuse. It was about feeling powerful and important. Which is not to say he didn't care about his family. But, as anons already pointed out, it got to a point where there was more money than they could already manage, and he wouldn't stop.

It was interestingly complicated in S1/S2, but by S3 they transitioned into Walt getting off on it. Both things can be true. He initially *did* get into it for the family.
Problem is not the statement itself but that it oversimplifies the storyline. Sort of like how at the end of The Sopranos they just dismiss Tony as a simple sociopath despite going for 5 seasons saying there is more to it than that.
>>214045089
Heβs right. The show was definitely intended initially to show a Travis Bickle style character where society and arbitrary circumstances have kicked him down so much he snaps and fights back. Not a hero, but certainly intended to make audiences at least partially sympathetic to him and his plight.
They could have gradually portrayed his descent into complete immorality but in a five season show he basically becomes an unhinged monster with zero redeeming qualities in the span of half a season.
>>214044980
Walt is shown to be egoistic in the FIRST episode, hell, in the first 2 minutes. He gets up in the middle of the night to exercise and is staring at his diplomas and awards.
>>214044038 (OP)
the worst part of the show, which is a considerable amount of it,
is that they never really show Walt as Heisenberg, he's just known off-screen, you never really see him become anyone, compare this to Tony Soprano where you actually see him becoming boss and being affected by it and it being recognised as such.
>>214044980
they absolutely fucked up making every single character unlikeable so Walt had to suddenly turn into the spawn of Satan so they could get their point across.
