It just wasn't.
Everybody to this day is talking about a truly great show - "Breaking Bad".
No one is talking about "The Wire" except to say it was "the greatest show of all time" without providing any evidence.
No memes.
No quotes.
No clips from great scenes.
No memorable characters.
Nothing.

Idiot, Breaking Bad is more popular precisely because it’s simpler.
It has fewer characters; basically just two. It has a clear premise: Walter White has cancer and wants to sell meth to make money. The plot is straightforward, Walter doing what he needs to do and pretty much every scene is propels the story forward.
It’s simple, it’s straightforward, and it works.

The Wire, meanwhile, has a LOT of characters and very realistically complex plots.

Where do I go after season 5? Any recommendations?

S5 wasn't that bad after everything I heard about it. Still the worst by far but didn't feel like a nosedive, just felt like a very hamfisted way to get it to be about press influence. S4 was pretty great also.

There was kino but most of the show could be summed up in the episode 1 cold open about Snot Boogey. Ghetto kids are actually secret geniuses and have profound insights that we don't know about because we write them off and the system keeps them down!!!!

This never happened btw. The entire 4th season is proving the opposite

Whenever I'm reminded of this show I'm reminded that the main antagonist is a zesty homo thug that fucks white boys and that's the only thing of note.

There is a lot of good stuff in The Wire but it feels super padded compared to modern television. (most shows do to be honest)
With a bit of effort I think you could condense every season into a 3-4 hour movie and lose almost nothing.
