Rome
Why doesn't Rome get the attention it deserves? It crawled so Game of Thrones could attempt to stumble.

It was cancelled because
>BBC, who was partly funding the production, bailed after season one
>The show was shot on CinecittΓ  Studios, which was a hotbed for all kinds of sleazy politicking and haggling that scared HBO's lawyers
>It was literally the most expensive show of its time ($100 million budget)
HBO cancelled it (or more specifically frontloaded like three seasons worth of plot into S2) while S1 was airing because of the lukewarm ratings then they regretted it when they found out the DVD sales were incredibly profitable. But by then it was too late to renew the show, especially since the set burned down in an accident.

Because season 1 is the highest tier. Its production values are on the same level as Lawrence of Arabia or The Lord of the Rings and mog anything by Scorsese, Tarantino, or Nolan (all three of whom claim that TV series are inferior to movies, yet none have made anything this epic).

However, season 2 feels rushed and ends poorly. The original plan was for five seasons, spanning from Caesar to Jesus.

How did it change TV? To what? To a place where they have tried to make more fantasy since it aired? Big deal. All flops. I remember them even trying to finally adapt the Shannara books and it ended up been a teen soap on MTV or something.
Thrones kind of looked like shit. Rome did it right with real sets. The CGI and tiny gatherings of people and stupid little "battles" like when Tyrion kills the guy with a shield.. they just looked cheap and lame.
But I'm glad you rode the wave of excitement back when it aired. Must have felt like you were really a part of the big thing. lol

My hope for the future of AI shit, is that they can somehow use existing stuff like Rome to expand upon and complete. Imagine those three extra seasons or two more seasons of Deadwood.
The thing is, without the actual involvement of the copyright holders I fear the output would be shit. David Milch's mind is gone and he and Milius will both be dead by the time that technology is ripe. But also maybe A.I. can read every single thing, made or unmade, published or unpublished, that either of them ever wrote, and map out what their brains WOULD HAVE come up with.
I'm trying to stay positive with the whole A.I. thing. Then there could be those huge, epic, sweeping battles people seem to think are important to shows like this. They could easily produce all the minutiae that we wish we could have; just hundreds or thousands of hours with these characters.
Imagine James Gandolfini's family accepting some money and letting them go hog wild making 40 more seasons of prime Sopranos. Everyone still living could lend a voice or something if they wanted but they could get paid for their appearance. Or maybe that money model will be gone, and everyone will just have access to their own A.I. which can deliver any fantasy you can think of using anyone or anything as a springboard.
"A.I., I want you to make Godfathers 3, 4, and 5. Taking place directly after the end of part two. Pretend the 1990 one never happened."
or
"A.I., I want a 40 hour maxiseries of the rise of Omar Little and Prop Joe in Baltimore, and McNulty's rookie days as a subplot."

But I bet for years it would suck.

of course this seems like a dangerous tool to have. People already spend their lives glued to entertainment they like. The most kino roman shows would just be the life & history of: Historical character. Start with Caesar, that guy's life was wild if even half of what's passed down to us is true.

Instead, they want to make gay shit about men fucking boys and women fondling slave cocks and brothers and sisters having incest with each other and so on. That's why no good rome shows will ever be made, even if Rome was occasionally pretty good (literally ALL the woman stuff notwithstanding).

I think A.I. is fucking retarded from what I've seen so far. From the printed word to television and the internet, every form of technological advance in communication yet has been a disappointment that quickly became stupid to please the masses.
A.I. has already demonstrated the worst kind of aggregation and regurgitation we could imagine. Just think what the future will hold.

I already choose to take no part in it, or at least as little as possible. I'm simultaneously impressed and disgusted by what A.I. is capable of. And I have no confidence that it will be controlled as the powers of the world race to try and harness it for global domination.
